"New" '97 Polo Green SVX (Just like Jeff)
Hi Everyone!
I'm ecstatic, and I just wanted to share with a group that could appreciate my good fortune (not quite as fortunate as Jeff, the owner of the red '97 with 121 miles, but close)! I'm the proud owner of a '92 Teal SVX with 86,000 extremely well maintained miles on it. It has been the best car that I have ever had, and I've never had any major problems with it (including the transmission!!). But, I was rather depressed since I had put a lot of miles on it in the early years (in my business), and I thought that I would never see its like again. I had originally planned on buying a '98 SVX to replace my '92 (the dealer told me they would be available then), but, as we all know, '97 was the last year and I couldn't find any. Well, I was wrong!! For once in my life, I was in the right place at the right time!! I go to Joe Spitz's SVX web site once in a while just to see what's there. I hadn't been there in more than a year when I went there a coupld of weeks ago, and, lo and behold, Joe had a '97 Green SVX listed WITH 5835 original miles. I jumped on the phone only to find out that there was a party in Arizona who had reserved it ahead of me :-( However, Joe called me back a couple of hours later to tell me that the Arizona guy had bad credit and that I could have the car :-) which, amazingly, had never been registered/titled (it was held by Subaru corporate as a flagship demo car). So, I flew from San Diego to Seattle, completed the paper work, and had the car trucked down. It arrived a few days ago, and it's brand new in everything but the year!! It drives like a dream and it certainly fulfills all my SVX dreams. The paint is 100%, all the rubber (both on the top and the undercarriage) is perfect. I was so happy that I didn't even haggle with Joe on the price. It was like getting a brand new, $40,000 car for half price (I paid $21,995 for it). I also live in California, and if Jeff won't let you smell his car, you can come smell mine since it also still smells new. I don't plan on driving it too much, but it's hard not to. So, are there any more "new" SVX's hiding in the bushes out there. I think I feel so lucky!! Happy SVXing, Ken wizard2277@h... |

Ken, will you be trucking it to Lafayette for the July sniff'n drool fest?
We'd love to have you. Ron.

Great story, Ken. Are you planning on racking up the miles on this car as a daily driver, or will you be trying to preserve it?

Reply to questions
Hi everyone!!!
Although I would love to make the meet in July, my summer is completely booked, so, unfortunately, I will not be there. I hope that all of you have a great time (besides, it would be kind of self-defeating to drive 3,000+ miles across country if I want to preserve the car). We were fortunate enough to get a van for use in my computer business (hardware and software) a few years ago, so the last few years I was only putting about 5,000 miles per year on my '92 Teal. I intend to do the same with the '97 Polo Green so that it's preserved as long as possible. Although I considered putting it up on blocks, I enjoy driving it too much to do that. I'm going to put enough miles on it each year to keep everything in tip-top working order, but no more. So, in 10 years, I should only have about 50K on the odometer (and it should be almost ready for the museum by then). Has anyone heard anything more about the "new" SVX coming out (maybe) in 2003? I saw the articles that were posted in this group, but I'd like to know more. SVXing is getting better every day, Ken wizard2277@hotmail.com |

Congrats!
I made an offer on that same car about a month ago. The price you said you paid was considerably higher than his asking price back then. (I made an offer much lower than that, and was rejected. The price is much, much, higher than any book value. Much!) Regardless, you're a very lucky guy! She's very beautiful. |
