Arrow Oil Dip Stick

Ok, so my little yellow oil dipstick keeps popping out when I drive my car. I have tried it with the little oil can faceing up and down.

No matter what when I pop open my hood the dip stick has popped about and inch out of the tube.??? Strange.... Im thinking of just using some type of wire or something to hold it in place.

anyone else seen this happen???

Oil dip stick

Most likely the PCV valve, it's located under the plastic center cover on the Intake manifold. When you look down in the hole you will see a large hose it connects to the valve. It is not venting properly, probably plugged. Some members have used a crow foot wrench to remove it, I was able to change it out while swapping motors so it was easy...I guess... Steve

Try replacing the O-ring on the dip-stick. If that doesn't work you have other problems. Let us know.

Arrow Dip Stick

Thanks for the advise. I look at that darn o ring every time I push that thing back in. I will definatley get off my butt and change it.

One question can the pvc valve simply be cleaned and re-installed or does it require a new part. Im gonna do all this in the morning so I will let cha know how it goes.

It can be cleaned but the part is cheap enough that it's not worth the time to clean it.

PCV is a sealed part. Don't believe you can service or clean it.

Glenn

David; Really? You can clean that bad boy???

You can run some carb cleaner through it though.

Replacement of the PCV is recommended. It is not expensive. It has been discussed that a clogged PCV will increase the engine crank case pressure and blow oil out the engine seals also. In most cases the dip stick only blows when under heavy acceleration when blow by gases are at the maximum. It will also make your SVX slower if it's clogged real bad.

man I have the old one out but now im tryin to get the new one in. I am having a heck of a time getting it to start threading so I can put a wrench on it and finish it off.

Its just kind of a trick angle through a small hole.

If you're fortunate to be able to get your hand under the intake then great. When we changed mine we used some hay-wire to hold the valve in the correct position.

Arrow Finished

Finally, I got that sucker in. I was able to get my hand under the intake.

Little piece of advise for anyone undertaking this task - Have an extendable magnet on hand. When you drop this thing ( I dropped mine twice) you will save alot of frustration by having the extendo magnet.

Cranked it up, everything seams good. Have not taken a road test. Hopefully nothing goes <<<Kaboom!!!<<<< while im driving down the road.

Im taking a hour and a half road trip in a few days just trying to knock out all the "easy" ha ha stuff.
