4EAT --- will this fit???

Hi All -- I have a 95 SVx that supposedly has 4:11 gearing that was "dealer" done. I changed the tranny oil and filter and found "parts", so I will need to change tranny or rebuild. The question is: Could this be a Legacy trans and rear diff that was installed??? Would a 97 Legacy trans work for replacement??? Thanx for the help. kevin

Couple of things:

As I've never heard of a dealership-performed 4.11 swap, I'd suggest you do the following:

1. get the number off of the trans and check to make sure it is, in fact, a 4.11 trans
2. check the rear diff to make sure it is, in fact, a 4.11 diff (if it has the SVX's 3.545 tag on it be concerned....)

If a dealership just dropped a 4.11 4HEAT in without changing the rear diff you've got an obvious mismatch of ratios...

What "parts" did you find when you dropped the pan?

-Bill (okay, so maybe my rear diff has the 3.545 tag on it )

i have had the car about 3 months and all is good with the match with front and rear diffs--ie no binding. The trans seems good except for some "flaring" 3rd to 4th. I found what appears to be small rollers out of a thrust bearing--about 1/8th in diameter and 3/16th long. Of interest is the drain plug is on the driver's side--looks like a Legacy trans. Thanks for the input and I look forward to more. kevin
