'92 vs. '97
Collected info so far:
How the '97's differ from the '92's: 215/55/16 tires OBDII Manual seat belts Position of the shifter "lock out" button moved Split rear seats Transmission upgrades that allowed for better flow and therefore, less prone to overheating. Speed limiter locked at 145 MPH Diagnostic connection to the right of the steering wheel, instead of a coin holder. Wood dash changed color slightly Alright.. I've done my searches and just can't find this info. Any 'official' review states, "There were few changes between the model years..." I'm looking for something more specific. I would've sworn I saw it somewhere, but it may've just been my mind lumping all the stuff I saw together... All that I can find on specifics are colours, the front grill and a reference to no automatic belts. I thought I saw some mention of later model SVXii having moonroofs as opposed to sunroofs (glass rather than a solid panel), but I'm not sure. I believe there was also mention of the '95's - '97's having a stronger tranny and maybe some other minor mechanical changes that make them considerably more reliable than their older bretheren? Additionally, were the '97's still using Freon in the A/C units? Anyone have a full list of the differences between the 92's & '97's (assume LS-L vs. LSi)?

92 wins it.
I don't remember the 97's numbers(high 15's, low 16's), but the 92 did 15.2 in the 1/4. + The 92's have no speed limiter. |

Hey Wulf, longtime no hear The 97's(as well as 96s) are OBDII, meaning they have updated emmissions as per law. The seat belts went manual in 94 and up models, as well as the shifter "lock out" button moving its position. thats what i could come up with. phil

all 94.5+ models that were not L models also got split rear seats.
Transmission upgrades simlpy allowed for better flow and therefore less prone to overheating. Speed limiters are not a big deal as no one really needs to do more than 145mph anyway Not to say some of us haven't Oh and the 98+ models also had a 6mt model. I have one of the 4 made Tom |

the 93 ish + have the lock button in the center console.
the 96/97s have diagnostic connection to the right of the steering wheel instead of a coin holder. 92-96 has 225/50/16 stock tire size. '97s have 215/55/16 (pretty sure about this size, not positive).

Tyres (Tires/?)
Quote:
A couple of months ago I had to fit new tyres and fitted 205/60 -16 Michelin Energy MXV8. I did not fit these without due consideration. These tyres are of a touring variety, rather than performance tyres and there was a saving in outlay as a further advantage. They do have an adequate speed rating. A car to me has always been a source of enjoyment, only in respect handling and satisfaction once in the driving seat, all other factors being a secondary comprise. What many would consider a downgrade, has in effect been somewhat of a transformation. As hoped for, the smaller section on the same rim width, has resulted in much more responsive handling, due to the straighter side walls. Any supposed reduction in adhesion I can handle from the driving seat and have fun doing so, but such has not been the case. It is very interesting that it would appear, due to experience, the later models followed the same course.

Thanks a bunch for the info so far, folks.
Can anyone confirm or deny the moonroofs? ...and anyone know about the A/C coolant?

moonroof were never a factory option in the states. For that matter anywhere as far as I know. Some people have adapted them.
The freon changed all post 92 models from R12(liquid Gold nowadays) to R134A that you can find at any auto parts store Tom |
