Newbie
Hello SVXERS, My name is Dick and I am a newbie. I just purchased a red 97 for my wife as she wanted a ride with AWD. It is a nice addition to the stable of a red 63 1800s and a red 83 Elford RX7. Yes, I like Red ! Faster, right? Anyways I was looking for input on purchasing a workshop manual There is one on Ebay {Item number: 4631100180}. Any suggestions appreciated. I expect to become a regular poster as the rest of the stable is comparably low-tech.TIA

Welcome!

Congratulations on the purchase. 97s are last of the line, and should be good cars. Regards the workshop manual you mention. It looks like that one is an aftermarket CD. There seems to be millions of these on-line. My brother bought one for his Japanese model Forester. It was based on Mitchell software, and they are generic relating to a large range of models. Yours could be different, but I doubt it. Buy it, I would say. It's worth the money, but not as good as the real thing. I paid something like $150 for my real one. It has five manuals. Mine is a '92 year book. I later bought the updates. If you can find the real factory manual for your '97, I'd advise you to do so. There were technical and typo mistakes in the early manuals. These were corrected & adjusted as time went on. You would be best served by buying the dedicated '97 manuals, or '96. The later model cars had some improvements made to them, and the wiring looms are different after late '94, as they went from OBD 1 to OBD 11, with a different diagnostic plug. But any real SVX manual will allow you to sort 95% of the problems you could face. A red '83 Elford RX7? Is that the one with the original turbo? My friend in Kerry has one, a silver one, very nice car, I always liked them. Post as much as you like, we are a garrulous lot here, we post and chat just for practice. Joe

Welcome to the site. We will help you with your questions even if we don't know the answers. Usually they have already been asked and you can use the search key or look in the How-To Documents. Good luck on the car.
