Collectible is not necessarily valuable: My mother collects owl figurines, but I am positive that they are not valuable, just dusty.
That same article also listed the XT-6 as a collectible, with price range of @$2500-$5000. I usually see them for $1500, maybe I'll get one. |

I guess you can Google-up the exact dates & facts, but as I remember the original '63 Riviera, & the best looking IMHO, was originally going to be marketed as a Cadillac, or as a separate GM product. In fact, I don't think the Buick logo appeared on the car initially. The '64 (or was it '65?) moved the dual round headlights from the delightful egg-crate grill to a vertical arrangement behind a clam-shell on the fenders. I consider the original Riviera to be one of two of the best post-war Detroit designs ever created. Any guesses as to the other? Again, my opinion. Ron.

i see the svx as being possibly a little less popular than the delorian to collectors, the edge to the delorian soley to back to the future... had the svx been used in a movie (or possible in the future) it would boost the collectibility
the delorian is mostly collectible becuase of its paintless stainless steel body and gullwing doors and dare i say it...split windows... and of course how much of a marvelous dissaster it was to dmc... but i compare the svx alot to it please dont hurt me for saying that the svx was an attempt by subaru to change the image of the company but didnt catch on for a few reasons... the diff is the delorian sucked in performance...we jsut have simple tranny probs but im pretty sure the volkswagon phaeton (that giant $90k luxury car) will be the same way consider the start price of a delorian was about $60k and i saw one here sell for $15k 3 years ago getting a $30k car for about $6k compares aboutthe same

Do you mean a silver ghost?
Nope, not a RR! I'm sure it's a silver '63, with the split rear window. I searched extensively online as well, and couldn't find anything about a grey ghost either, but swear I saw a show years ago on TV that mentioned a small amount were produced and referred to by the factory as "Grey Ghosts". The car they showed looked exactly like his, and I just assumed that's why he had it. As a side note; when he had it on the road last, he visited my family and parked behind my first nice car....a '78 Monte Carlo. ( I was 16) I got in a fight with my girlfriend, jumped in my car and threw it R, and nailed the throttle hard. After about 20 feet....I was stopped suddenly. HARD. That's right, that old BUICK didn't even have a scratch on it's big old bumper, thanks to the chevy's plastic bumper and the serious Detroit heft of that thing. Never did tell him. BTW, he thinks my car's pretty cool...better watch out Earl! |

Nice guess, Joe, but you didn't read my mind. I would put the '53-'55, & the '63 split window in the top 10, however. No....not thinking of any T-birds either. Ron.

I'd be surprised if a low mileage svx goes for more than $10k in a decade. Just drive and enjoy them now.
BTW check my new thread on the Phaeton factory.. awesome stuff.

I would be surprised too if it was a 92. Some of the other years might fetch that price.

My next guess would be those nice Raymond Loewy things, or are you a fan of the Turner cars? Joe
