Front Dif pics

As some of you know I fried my front dif in my LS-L (that makes two fried difs, front and rear) Friday night and Im supposed to go tomorrow to inspect it with the shop owner. As it stands there was no damage to the transmission (thank god) and they had the tranny out in about 4 hours. Tomorrow I get to see what happens when a front dif lets go at 5mph

Does anyone have pics of a front dif? Ive never seen one... It would be greatly appreciated so I dont look like a total imbasile tomorrow at the shop lol

They told me the trans had to be dropped to work on the differential... is that true?

Yes. And separated into three sections.

Richmond Subaru subs its work out to Cottman Transmission who is doing the work on it. They charged me 250 to pull it 200 for parts and labor to put it together, and 250 to reinstall into the car. I should have it back by Friday

That is an extremely good price for a differential swap out.

the replacement pinion and gears are 88.47 and he quoted me for 2 hours of labor at 55.00/hr so figure right around 200 bucks for the actual rebuild. 4 hours to drop and 4 hours to reinstall. Super nice guys too... I went by there and it was all covered up except for the engine bay, the shop is very clean and organized.. so for a grand I get my car back... I dont see how thats exactly an excellent price...

You better get the estimate in writing.
Are the replacement ring and pinion new parts?

Because 2 years ago, on the 94, it cost me $1,800 to replace it at Subaru.
That's why it's a good price.
