OK, so what exactly are my options here? 5spd related...new Q's
hey guys,
EDIT 9/27/2005: thanks for the info guys, im meeting with a friend this weekend and we are going to break out the welder and take care of the x member. im new to this SVX board but def. not to the subaru world. ive been a member on the USMB and NASIOC for 4-5 years now... anyway - i bought a 1992 SVX that had already been converted to a 5 speed with a trans out of late model legacy. it has a rigged up x-member but the trans needs something stronger...you can tell/hear this thing moving underneath the car and feel the vibrations while driving. it doesnt quite look like im in danger of dropping the trans all over the ground however. i have the parts needed to construct a cross member but no means to weld. so my questions to SVX vets are as follows: 1. who on here builds x-members? 2. is there a company that produces these? 3. has anyone else used a legacy trans in an SVX? any help is appreciated. There are some pictures of x-members in this thread:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28180 alex_umn and Subafreak both probably have pics of x-members in their locker.

Do you know who did the conversion? If it was SmallCar Performance, the crossmember should be replaced unless it was done recently. The old ones were not aligned properly and caused bearings to wear and the transmisson would go BANG !!!!! I know from experience !!!

yeah, who did the conversion?? I am in Philly this week, I wouldn't mind meeting up with ya, and u can check out what kind of X-member I am running. Subafreak whipped up mine for me after I realized my old on was pushing the rear of the trans up way too high and causing rediculous vibrations

I got my x-member from Subafreak. He did a good job, and he lives in R.I. I used a 92 Legacy Tranny. There are strentgh issues using the legacy tranny. The SVX has considerably more power then the Legacy. You should be ok as long as you dont hammer it to much.

I have the kartboy shifter and stiffened bushing. I also have a leather shift boot but looks a little crappy but not too bad. I need a new shift boot but the knob matches the car well
