Key Codes - HELP!!!

Hi All,

Did some searching for Master Key and Valet key issues, and it seems I'm in trouble.

My master key was stolen (never lend your car to a buddy), and the trunk latch is deactivated. So no trunk entry for me. =(

Anyway, I went to the dealer and they did not have my SVX on file. I had them cut another key based off the 4 digit key code on my Valet key. Hey, the key code worked, by only as a Valet key and not a Master key. =(

Are the Key codes different for the Valet Key and the Master Key? If so, can someone give an example of the differences.

Example:
The Master Key is one digit higher then the Valet key.
Master: 1234 - M
Valet: 1233 - Y

Hopefully there is a pattern so that I can have one made. I really don't want to re key the entire car if possible.

Thanks in Advance.

From the factory the key codes were the same on master and valet keys. It was the key blanks that were different.
When you say your key works as a valet key, and not as a master key, what do you mean?
Does it open the doors, start the car, but not open the trunk?
Does it fit in the trunk lock but not turn?
Does the key they just cut foy you have an X, or a Y on it?

Hi,

The Key code that I have is from the Valet Key (XXXX - Y). So the new key made from the code works just like the original Valet key (doors, starter).

It will start the car, open the doors, but will not open the trunk or glove box. It will fit in the trunk but will not turn.

Thanks,

Perhaps they cut your new key on a valet key blank?
If it has an X on it it is a master key.
If it has a Y on it it is a valet key.

Key Code

Hi,

Not sure if there is two different stubs, the dealer dosen't have any clue. =(
The key that they made is a Curtis SR5 (For Subaru). Other then that it has no other markings.

Any ideas?

I just called two Subaru dealers, and the SR5 is a master key blank.
On some cars/vans with a remote opener people never use the key to unlock them, and the locks rust, making them unuseable.
You might try some WD40, or PB blaster and wiggle the heck out of the key while it's in the lock.
If you can get into the trunk from the interior you can unbolt the two 12mm bolts that hold the part the lock hooks to.
And once the trunk is open you can flip the trunk release cancel switch.
