Unhappy My car committed seppuku.

Cruising down the expressway, something goes thunk and she starts running like ****. The oil pressure and check engine lights turn on.

I pull off and coast to the side of the road as the car dies.

A puddle of oil begins to form beneath the car.

I really don't need this.

So, anybody seen a good deal on an eg33 block lately?

Can't tell. I'll jack it up tomorrow when I've got some daylight.

Catastrophic oil loss sucks. God bless that starter, it tries...

.. do not turn over the engine when theres no oil!

If you stopped in time, the engine should have minimal damage. if not... you're right in looking for a new engine. it might be an oil filter falling off or something like that. do you change your own oil?

I'm really sorry man... good luck and i hope that the block is ok

I ran over a chunk of debris on I-285 (a.k.a. the Great Garbage Beltway) in Atlanta in my Mustang years ago, puncturing the oil filter with a nasty sounding CLUNK. Didn't realize what damage was done until I lost the power steering, due to motor oil under pressure spraying from the busted filter casing onto the drive belt. Fortunately I got off the road and shut 'er down before ruining the engine (I'll take an oil pressure gauge over an idiot light any day), and my only expense was a new filter and a couple of quarts of oil.

Hope you're as lucky with your SVX.

I hope things go well for you Thet.

In the thousands of oil filters I've seen, I've only seen two fail from a rock hit. Both of them were orange, and the company name on both began with an "F".

I have seen this happen numerous times when people go to quick oil change places. Sometimes the lazy techs (hs kids) don't check to see if the o-ring came off.

THe car died on its own? You are probably up the creek. Oil starvation is a terrible thing.

Yeah, you're probably right. I forgot the part about the car dying.

ThetaReactor: Sorry if my previous post fostered any false hopes.

Nah, no false hopes. I exhausted all of those standing on the side of the road trying to think of anything else it could be.

Nothing yet. I'll finish pulling the radiator tomorrow and see if I can get a better look at things. Put a wrench on the crank nut and can't get it to turn...

Not sure if you've seen this thread in the For Sale Section:

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...threadid=23156

Rufus in the last update he made, had reduced the price to $400 which is a steal.
