About Subaru

In my impression, Subaru is a great car. Not so many problem at all and can have high mileages with no problem. But why the SVX has many problems, especially the transmission..... Is that only happen in SVX?? What do you guys think?

Actually, transmission problems are not confined to the SVX. According to one of the techs at my dealer's shop, other models have had histories of transmission problems, too. But, overall, the reliability is probably better than a lot of brands.

I don't think that the SVX itself has a history of being an unreliable car. I think that all models have their issues, but overall Subaru cars are definitely better than average. I would put them slightly lower on my dependability scale than Toyota (who, I will admit, can do no wrong in my mind), but Subaru handicaps themselves by building inherently more complicated cars.

We just see the problems over and over here on this site because people see it as a place to go for answers.

The SVX is also a car that can be a hell of a lot of fun to drive hard, and that alone will shorten the lifespan of parts.

Good point, Nick, but I think a distinction needs to be drawn here. This SVX, when driven "hard" will disappoint you. When driven "fast" it will thrill you. The SVX was desinged to be driven fast, but not hard. Although, practicality and good sense should win out when deciding just how "fast" fast is. Long periods of time at high speeds, no problem -- short distances, full out -- look out. I only have a nickel -- can I get three pennies back?

That's a very good point. I have done many long trips (most recently on the way home from AutoFest) at high speeds without a complaint from the SVX. It seemed as much at home at 120mph for hours at a time as it does at 75mph every day.

Congrats, Nick! Your congratulatory event has given me an excuse to take one more step toward 3K. Ahhhh, seems like only yesterday I was at 500.

Right, but some of us aren't so close to retirement and have to work to maintain job security.

Heh.

Okay, Randel er AREDUBJAY. Help me out here. I think I should start a "new" thread, but I don't know how. You know, "old dog, new tricks" kind of thing......

But, that said, I just wanted to let everyone know that the last autocross of the season for the local Mercedes club is this coming Sunday, 4 Nov. It will be, as usual, at the James Wood High School parking lot in Winchester, VA - very large lot where speeds on the course can exceed 60 mph, if one has the horses (HP) and the course isn't really "tight". Check out the web site at >www.gws-mbca.org< for directions under "AUTOCROSS". While there, also check out the gallery - one might find a SVX doing its thing.

Everyone is invited whether they run the event or not. Since it is the last autocross of the season and the weather is supposed to be great (70 degrees!), there should be lots of cars running. Okay, Olu and Jack, will you be there????

Looking forward to seeing you there if you can make it.
Harry

Randy, it seems like I can never catch up with your posts. Chances are, even if I tie you down, you probably have some cybertronic operation done so that you can mentally post to the site just by though alone

Now, how many do I have to post till I hit my 1000?

I think it's time for you guys to try a little Dicken's Cider. Great for when you've been dry a long time. (Couldn't resist).
