sti axles

just got my sti axles installed and the car rolled like butter put on a steaming cob of corn. I had them in my car about and hour. Once i saw just how easy it was to install, it makes me wish i had done it myself. anywho. It could be a nice addition if you can wait for the shipping from JAPAN.

Yeah, I'd really like to know what you're talking about.

This thread, by the way, belongs in the mod forum.

Where did you get them from? You have a part #? Cost?

Is your car AWD or FWD?

Thanks

i assume that they're from an impreza or a legacy... how much heavier duty are they?

was it really nesicairy to put sti axles on the car? i don't remember ever hearing of anyone breaking axles

will other sti suspension parts fit... tie rods linkage and that kind of stuff

i got the sti axles because my driver front was crunching and grinding. I'm not sure what car they are off of. They cost me around 300 dollars and another 150 to have them installed. Unfortunately i do not remember the PO number. My reasoning for putting the Sti axles in instead of replacements is simply the fact that they are a little more lightweight and stronger. To the best of my knowledge, the bearings inside the axles are sealed instead of loose ball bearings. that is the only real difference that i could find. I can't complain, they work.

300 for how many axles? Just the two fronts or for all four?

Do Legacy or Impreza axles even work in the SVX? I was under the impression that they weren't interchangeable.

$300

You paid $300 total for the 2 front axels? Being that the STi is new, i can't see them being reman axels yet so this is a great deal for OEM axels. Please give us the part number and contact for the axels. thanks

this should help clarify everything. I found the order number, not the purchase order number, for the axles. As it turned out, the shipper could not ship the axles from Japan, as my initial thread states. At the time when i posted the thread i was told that my axles had come to the shop where i had the swap occur. Turns out that the guys at the shop ordered the wrong axles. It was going to be another week before the right axles were to be in my car.
Knowing that my car would not last much longer, i called around locally to see what i could turn up. It so happens that a nearby wrecking yard had and SVX that quote "was sitting out back and the motor blew." So i asked if i could take a looksee and make my descision then. The car as it sat, was RHD(right hand drive, to the layperson). I made another call to a friend while this diamond in the rough sat before me and asked if the axles would mount up. He said he wouldn't see a problem why not, so i has the yard worker pull the axles. When he got them up front i looked and it had an STI insignia on the axle.
I wish i could turn up a part number but unfortunately due to the circumstances can not find one. SORRY GUYS
If something comes up, i'll be sure to let you guys know.

Your story continues to get more and more interesting. You found a RHD SVX in a salvage yard in Idaho and it just so happened to have STi axles we've never heard of.

I'm not accusing you of being dishonest with us - this just gets more interesting the more we hear about it.

Was this a JDM SVX which happened to have STi axles on it before it came here to the States, I wonder?

Non-Sti

Hey,

I spoke with Subaru dealership here. They told me they like and have installed "Carquest" parts for SVX customers.

I called Carquest.... $74.00 per side for the part. Core charge $105.00-there are no exceptions on the core charge.

The warranty was "Limited Life Time"

Pep-Boys also $74.00 per side for the part. they did not say what core charge was.

Life Time Warranty- 90 days on labor (If they do something wrong)
