Lowest mi. ?

Hi, I'm brand new here. At a Subaru parts dept. I met Dave, who told me about this site. Just wanted to let you all know, after totalling my beloved '92 w/ only 104K, during a nasty snow storm, in Dec., (it was subsequently hit twice, after I slid into a tree at an awful icy intersection), I bought a green '97 in ex.cond. w/ only 26.5K miles. It's beautiful! Now it has 27K and I think I should never drive it!? Hey, these cars were made to be driven! I guess I'm in a dilema! Anybody have one w/ less mileage? Hi Dave!

If you have less than a 1000 miles, keep it in a guarded place. Oherwise, these are made to be driven. Drive them. I don't get some people keeping them for winter. AWD Hello?

Thanks for both replys guys. I believe an SVX only reaches it's full potential on a snowy road and my road is the worst in town. Our other car is an '01 AWD Legacy GT 5 speed black wagon. It has proved to be a snow lover, too.

Well, Kenneth, as Keanau Reeves would say-whoah! 10K mi.! WOW! You're very smart because you have that '92 LS-L you can drive across the country in if you want to. I bet you don't drive the '97 very often, though, do you?
Can you sense that your '92 is faster than the '97? I haven't had my '97 long enough to really sense that.

you are correct that i don't drive the '97 very often. i bought it last february with 8100 miles, so i guess it averages only 1700 miles per year. i drive it to meets and good weather pleasure driving only. i am the second owner, and it was a third car for the original owner meaning it wasn't garaged. as for the '92 being faster, i really can't tell. i used to drive my '92 pretty hard when i first got it, but now i'm not as interested in burning up the transmission to put in the manual. as for top speed, i've never even been close. i think i got the '92 up to 110 and the '97 has only seen about 95.

I think it might be psycological, but when I stomped on the '92 and the Power light came on, I felt the G's more than I have in the '97 which has no power light! But then again, it's been winter and I haven't stomped on the '97 except a few times on the highway on a clear day. I think I just miss that old power light! The '97 is much quieter and smooth as silk. I'm the 2nd owner. The original owner was a good friend of the manager at this particular dealership's . Last month, I was calling on the "check engine" light that came on our '96 Legacy wagon. which has 127K mi. and we're now saving for our son. Before I hung up, I just said-"you wouldn't happen to have an SVX on the lot would you?" And the reply was..."as a matter of fact, just today..." When we went up that night to see it, it was in the showroom-looking brand new! They hadn't yet listed it on the internet, so not a lot of interest at that time. I told my good friend in CA who has a mint red '94. His reply was, if you don't buy it, I will have my father go out and buy it. His father lives locally to me. He wasn't kidding! So...I bought it. It has a 12 disk Pioneer CD changer, which is great. Meanwhile my wife found the '01 legacy GT wagon on the lot. We ended up buying 2 cars in 2 days! Now the '96 Legacy is off the road waiting for my son to abuse it this summer. We previously had a '93 Legacy Waygon, and an '85 Wagon prior to that. Subarus make sense! Aside from the SVX and Legacy GT wagon, my other car is a 1949 Willys Overland Jeepster! I've had that one since H.S.

other than the 2 SVXs, we have one other subaru, a 2000 base impreza coupe. we just got it last october; i traded a 2000 legacy gt limited sedan for it and a big, fat check. we also had a 2002 forester s w/premium package, but when the 1997 svx came to live with us, it had to find a new home. i really miss the heated seats.

I bet. The CO winter's are as cold as the MA ones. I never had heated seats so I don't know what I'm missing! CO is the right place for an SVX. Man, I remember those curvy mtn. roads in our rented Grand AM years ago. We've been out there 3 times. Once we took the Pike's Peak Auto road. WOW! Can you say agriphobia?

yeah, our winters are usually cold. it hasn't been too cold this winter. i think it hit 70 degrees this week. however, we still need to be prepared for our big snow months of march and april. last year we had between 4 and 7 feet in the denver area and foothills the third week of march.

WOW! That's some March/April snow fall stats! Today was the nicest day yet this year. Maybe 52 degrees, but quite sunny. I actually got to open my skylight for the first time. Works just as good as my '92 did! If you live near Denver, I assume you've been up to the RM National park. Man, that is just gorgeous. I love the Rockies! And those curvy roads! I remember the route into Aspen over the Continental Divide. Them's some mighty fine drivin' roads you got out there!

last year, we bought a pop-up camper and jeep and camped in rocky mountain national park. surprisingly, i still have yet to drive over trail ridge road. maybe i should plan one of our colorado meets to do it during the three months the road is open during the year. last year, we drove up to mt. evans. i believe it is the highest paved road in the country (over 14,000 feet).

If I went out there, I'd need a little oxygen tank! I recall hiking around Vail w/ my 4 year old son at the time. He could hardly move, and we weren't too far ahead! If I lived in CO, I'd most definitely have a camper. We did camp mostly through the entire state, but that was pre-kid. 1981 I think. We had a litle Toyota Tercel hatchback. We treated it like a big 4x4 SUV, and it never let us down! I remember the San Juan range as being pretty awesome as well, and us just pulling off an old mining road and pitching our little tent. We did a lot of that throughout the West.
The only good curvey paved mountain road that I know of in New England is the Kankamangus Highway, which runs E-W through the White Mountians. It is beautiful, however the road condition is pretty poor due the freeze/thaw. I think they call them ice heaves. ( I haven't had my coffee yet, I should now that like the back of my hand!) What amazed me about the CO roads, is-what excellent condition they're in. You get tons of snow and freezing, why don't your paved ropads buckle like ours do here?

i've never been to your part of the country, but i am surprised to hear about bad roads. i was thinking that colorado has the worst roads of any place i've been. i've never heard of ice heaves, but i am convinced denver is the pothole capital of the world! maybe our road materials are "ice heave" deterrent at the expense of being pothole susceptible.

Actually, now that my brain is functioning normally due to massive infussion of caffeine, I recall that the proper term is-"frost heaves", which are like mini-eathquakes, caused by the expanssion that happens in freezing, usually causing "waves" and cracks across the width of any given Northern road. Not that common in MA, but all over NH, and the last time I was on the Kankamangus, I remeber feeling a bit sick due to "riding the frost heaves!" You don't see them on expansive modern interstates even in NH, but they're common on the more mountainous rural roads, even divided ones. Yes, we know potholes very well here in MA! In fact I lost a really nice snow tire to one a few years ago. The tire had only seen 1 past winter season. It was in great cond. Since the Legacy was AWD, we had 4 snows. Unfortunately, 1 season later, I could no longer get that same tread (it was revised!) So...I had to buy 4 new snow tires! I tried to get the town to help out since the pothole should have been filled weeks ago, but they didn't agree! Ah the joys of winter! WEll, yesterday hit 60 so Spring can' be far behind!

ANDREW!

Hey, it's Dave. Glad to see you have joined our happy little family!
Your touch up paint is ready for whenever you're in the neighborhood again (we finally got one that was liquid).

Nice to have you here!

Dave
