Smile GOT my 1st SVX what should i do?

HELLO to all the fellow followers of the SVX..excuse my questions and answers..I am just learning about this lil known group of people and the car itself..I have recently upgraded from a 94 escort (hey no laughs its was a good car, i broke the record as for as tickets -lol-) to a 94 SVX Blue 2wd.. I have learned so much about the SVX and the small devoted following it has..makes me feel that much better so mine has 97,000 miles and is in great shape except for a few things...the buzzing noise about 1900 rpms upon accel & the oil leak smell that seems to be..non-oil leak (Shakes head). So what I would like to ask is to find out WHAT excatly i should have inspected and replaced now that we are close to 100k and whats the general life of this lil care that CAN! and mabye any other thoughts as far as lil problems or upgrades that won't effect smog (i am in a EHANCED area). I'm am in the north cali area (santa rosa) and sell cars at a used car store (yes thats where i got my SVX), so if anyone has general questions or need info on the car biz i'd be happy to trade my experince for yours .. thanks

Welcome Brock94SVX,
I am sure that you will find alot of answers to your many questions, just check out the search button. I'll let the true professional update you on all the quirks or you can search for new svx owners and see the general answers that are given. As far as the non-oil leak I would guess that it is the o-ring at the resevoir for the power steering. Good place to start looking. I suppose being a '94 and front wheel drive your transmission should treat you well if you keep the fluid changed and I would still recomend a cooler...
Good luck,

~G

Baby it and don't ever let it go.

The buzzing noise could be (and I think I can put money on it that it is) your resonator. Chop it off.

As for the smell, SVX uses 3 fluids in the engine bay. Tranny, Engine and gear oils. All smells differently. Check your tranny fluid.

Power steering and tranny use the same fluid and diff uses gear oil. I'd check with the tranny fluid or steering fluids and make sure they are ok. Steering fluid could be cheaper problem.

I am on my 3rd SVX and looking for 4th(so that I can have 2 at the same time -- that's a great feeling). Earl actually have 5 (yes five) of them.

Apart from that, ask questions (and do a search as well). Welcome and congrats.

Thanks for the reply greg that was fast you answered like 10 minutes after i posted...i didn't thin kanyone was acutllay alive on here -lol- and yes i am looking into the oil cooler i heard it was a faulty design (as far as cooling) and i'm having the timming belt checked and repalced if needed though it shoudl have been done around 60 k i'm guessing as with most cars of that gen (early/mid 90's) and I wanted to ask also if by chance anyone has a clue as to what the buzzing noise is upon accel about 1900 RPMs and also why the tac & car acts wierd at top RPM revs (is that the fuel shutoff to prevent damage?) oh and i notice the tranny shifts very differently from other cars i have driven...such as when i accel hard..the tranny doesn't wanna shift (and its a smooth shift vs a more harder shirt (tourqe converter i'm guessing working over time) right away it shift when i let off alil...and wait till i drop about 500-1000 rpm before it wants to **** (very wierd to me..is that a normal shift pattern? (i know it's my ignorance but i gott aknow to learn ya know ..and thanks again for your response and anyone else you does inthe future !

Just to let you know that when you do the timming belt you should go ahead and have the crankshaft seal replaced and the waterpump. They are all right there together. Save you some money in the long run. As far as the transmission goes I beleive that every SVX shifts differently! The SVX learns your driving habbits and controls shifts to match your habbits. You can reset that computer by disconnecting the battery overnight and then drive the car just the way you want (shift high, shift mid or shift for best fuel economy) after a day or two it will shift nice and smooth right where you like it!

oh i guess i shoulda mentioned this for some of my other questions above...with regard to the smell issue... i have checked all fluids (the ones i could easily access via the engine compartment) and everything seems....good..and thats funny to me cuz this vehicle was traded in at one our local new car store chains (freeman toyota) and my experince with used cars if people ar gonna trade them in they tend not to change EVERY fluid (its like why let the dealer do it) cuz every fluid seems new the trany fluid is still red and doesn't smell burnt, the steering fluid is a lil low but still fine...the oil fliud is clean..so i dunno!

My guess is that you had one of the good previous owners that actually enjoyed the looks (yes we all get them) and the questions (what is that ? ... it's a subaru!!!????) and took some pride in a limited edition... exotic looking (and driving) car. Good luck.. happy driving and welcome.

You were wondering if anyone is out here...!!!

OH NO, not another moder...I despise too many mods on an SVX. Just me though...AS far as a turbo goes you can if you can find room, don't waste time with a chip it won't help. A body kit may be possible but few for the picking...Check out motorsports warhouse..you should find a feild of rice there and some useful things too that can make your ownership even better.

hehehe....I know the feeling. Although I'm new on this board, Brock is a good friend of mine. I've helped him a bit on getting more info on his new ride. I can only help so much, so I'll be posting some questions from time to time so we may both learn this car together.

BTW, I far as I know, you eat rice, you don't drive it.

If you want speed I suggest maybe some nitrous. There really isn't any room for a turbo, searching for "turbo" will gain you many threads discussing that. Good luck in your ownership! Just take good care of her and she'll take good care of you.
