Doner cars for 5 speed

Which Subaru models are best as a doners for a 5 speed tranny conversion.

Sorry if this is an over hashed question...I'm new here.

Stick with a '93 or newer Subaru (Impreza, Legacy or Forrester)and you should be OK. Make sure it's an AWD trans (many early cars were FWD) and get the rear differential to match to ensure that the gear ratios are correct front to rear. If you can get the entire car that's even better. A partial list of parts required is:

trans
rear diff (unless you use a WRX (not STi) trans)
pedals
shifter assm
starter
clutch/pressure plate
flywheel
master and slave cylinder (or cable system)
mounts

You will have to modify the pedals, shifter, driveshaft, wiring, and possibly the transmission (WRX & Legacy Turbo requires a stud to mount the starter (lower end))

Good luck and happy hunting!

Todd

Straight is not the word...more like a 90° swap.
