front sway bar bushings

Hey all,

One of my sway bar bushings is destroyed. The dealer doesn't have the part in stock so I would like to go aftermarket with urethane replacements and get the parts today if I can (auto zone?)

Does anybody know if there are aftermarket front urethane sway bushings available that would be direct swap with stock? I have search the forum and only found mention of the rear ones.

Thanks,
Matt.

if there are, nobody has found them yet. A mod was done with a spacer plate, but that requires some machine access - search if that interests you.

Thumbs up

I just got prothane bushings from motorsport warehouse and installed them this morning. I didn't use a spacer plate but instead just bolted them up with the included brackets so it raises the swaybar up a little bit. They are a little wider than stock and obviously much stiffer.

I just got back from the initial drive on some twisty backroads and the difference is incredible. I don't understand how but these 2 stupid little $20 bushings greatly reduced the body roll. Both of my stock bushings were shot - one was almost completely gone. It feels like I have new springs. In normal high speed cornering the car remains amazingly flat. Near the limit there is still some roll but much less than I had before.

It's a huge improvement over what I had and compared to my wifes svx with stock bushings in good shape it is definitely better.

immortal_suby, how much did it raise the sway bar when you put them in? Not being a SVX suspension guru, I wonder if it the increase of the sway bar will affect the ride or wear to other suspension components or affects the understeer. ?? I was looking for a substitute bushings for replacement myself. How long did it take you complete the job? Maybe an email to Dayle is in order.

Wondering if Mychailo got a sway kit together??...

It raised it about 1/2 - 3/4 inch. So far after another drive I'd say any effect on handling is positive. There is some type of ball joint at either end of the sway bar where it attaches so I don't think it will introduce any significant binding that could increase wear but I'm no suspension expert so it's possible.

It took me about 2 hours to do it going slowly. This included time to look for new nuts/ bolts since the stock mounting is threaded and I had to find something to fit the new one which wasn't. Could be knocked down to about a half hour or less if I did them again.

I haven't pushed it hard enough to break the tires loose so I'm not yet sure if it will understeer now. My svx normally oversteers so we'll see.

I'd really like to see some pics!

And anyone ever replace the steering rack bushings?

Update - working well on my car. Bought a a second set for her svx and installed them not too long ago. Worked great on hers too using the same - bend the crap outta the bracket- method.
Car still oversteers and my azenis are pretty much slicks on the front and about 500 miles before they are slicks on the rear.
Her car oversteers too but it was pretty much neutral before and she just has worn out avid v4's so not real sticky to begin with.

Same here. Mine are about gone from oil exposure, soon to be remedied I hope! I looked on Dayle's site and don't find any swaybar bushings listed. Suppose we could just ask him?

Argh. Know anybody who has ordered a kit from Dayle? I'd rather not buy anything from him, ever. Sure, he caters to the SVX community, but he doesn't develop new products, all he does is find 'universal products', put an inflated price tag on them, then pump his store with almost every one of his posts.
