Ah Ha!! I figured it out. The other plug IS for the cruise control. It's always open unless you're in 5th gear. I'll be wiring that into the same circuit that the clutch and brake use to disconnect the cruise.

Cruise is disengaged if:

- press the brake
- press the clutch
- pull shifter out of 5th

(plus the normal ways)

I hooked up the battery today!! Reverse lights work, ignition works, clutch ignition (neutral) switch works, starter works! I may even get a chance to start the engine tomorrow!!!

Thanks to Huck's how-to I didn't make that mistake. I have my interior back together now with the exception of the driver's seat. I did not have to trim my shifter surround panel.

The test I'm most worried about is the cruise control. I have a lot of soldered wires in that circuit!

(If only I didn't have to work tomorrow)

p.s. - happy new year!

I did start the engine on the 1st for a few seconds. Had to shut it off though since I'm working in my parents' basement.

I'm having starter troubles as I see some other swappers are having. I turn the key and instead of turning over the engine the starter just clicks. People say that not enough voltage is getting to the starter so I'll have to check that out the next chance I get.

I'm new here, and doing a 5 speed swap as well. I was hoping that you guys could answer a few questions for ,me too.

I'm using a '95 Impreza drivetrain. Will the 3.90 ring and pinion out of the impreza physically fit into the SVX diff?

How did you guys wire up back up lights?

Thanks a lot

I hadn't seen an Impreza with 3.90s, all I've seen were 4.11's.
As for will they fit...they will if it had the same style housing...but if it has the smaller housing it won't.
Good news is the older Subarus (GL's and XT's) use the 3.90's in the correct size housing, so you can find one of those pretty easy (I have one myself, but it's a spare for my XT6)

I'm running a 95 Impreza tranny in mine too...but it had 4.11's....

Best of luck in your swap,

Chris-

My SVX is currently undergoing the swap... I never planned on replacing the Auto.

Also, my tranmission is from an Impreza and uses 3.90 diff's.

Mike

So that would be 5, 5-speeds there if we all make it?
It'd be a new record for sure

Unfortunately the Impreza housing I have is the smaller one. So if I get the ring and pinion out of an old XT6 they should fit into the svx diff? I was thinking about just having rear axles made and mounting the impreza housing into my SVX. Does anyone know anybody who could build them?

You'd lose your LSD rear diff, by using the Impreza Housing, plus the smaller housing isn't as strong, and you'll be putting 100HP more through it than the Impreza was....I'd recomend finding a good large housing 3.90 diff, and swap the ring and pinion into your LSD housing.
