No way man, get him a BIG freaking land yacht. Those are the best cars for 16 yr olds. I had a 1978 Mercury Marquis 4 door brougham. OH MAN. IT WAS HUGE! You're guaranteed if they get into an accident they'll be alive since they weigh 3 tons, and they're durable enough to survive a lot of abuse (read curbs, off roading, etc).

Plus they have a big backseat so he can learn other things. :P

I had a stripped (rear windows didn't even roll down) 83 malibu. I got air once and cracked the windshield on landing. Loved that bench seat.

The 229 V6 - I'd start it on a cold morning, (always parked it on a hill) let it idle for about 30 minutes, put it in gear (stalled almost immediately) car would roll down hill, grab neutral, start back up, grab drive, proceed to work.

460 - front right axle (cv-boot)
120 - ac recharge
245 - front and rear brake pads/front rotor turning (twice because of warping)
35 - front brake pads (again)
15 - radiator cap
720 - tires
720 - total oil changes

2834 - total

118 - per month (24 months of ownership)
