Hello svxlatino. The throttle body is something you can clean yourself, but from what I've heard, it usually causes rough idle, loss of power and things like that if it's dirty. I don't think it would make a grinding noise, although I'm not much of a technical guru when it comes to cars.

I'd invite you to start a new thread on your issue as your questions may be answered and noticed quicker, although I don't mind you asking questions here.

I wish I could be more help but like I said, I don't have much of an understanding of the technical aspects of cars.
Dave.

Dave, the whine sound you have could be from the trans. The oil pump in the front of the gear box, runs when ever the engine is running. This can cause a whining sound.

The other component is the rear epicyclic gear set, this set also runs when the box is in neutral. If the sound goes away when you select drive, The rear gear set is the problem, if not it may be the front pump.

Don't want to put the "curse of the black jelly bean" on you mate but I would put it up on a hoist, running in neutral and have a listen along the engine trans unit, to try to locate where the sound is coming from.

Harvey.

Ok Harvey. The loudest whine seems to be there all the time when the cars cold, so I think that whine is a belt. But now I've heard a new whistling sound when I decelerate. But only when the cars cold and for the first few seconds. Then it goes away. Lots of whines going on with me. Perhaps the mechanic heard something I didn't. I dunno. But what I think I'll do since I don't have hoist is when it's time for the next oil change, I'll take it into a place and see if they'll rev the engine while I listen. At least I now have the information to diagnose what it might be. Thanks very much for your advice.
