I've always heard that they all have had governors, but I personally have not had the balls to take mine above 130 on the road and that only once because I wanted to see when it would stop accelerating well. (I've never been to any sort of high speed track, the only type of racing I've done is tight track autocrossing)
What I've always noticed is on almost all cars, the governor is set to the speed rating of the tires that the factory puts on the car. I think that this needs to be done in any computerized car for liability reasons. |

Abdominal,
When my '97 LSI was new I took it up to 137 mph (as indicated on the speedo) briefly. I felt that she still had pulling power and would have topped 140. Bring her down from speed is how I originally warped the front rotors. I later had them ground down. I have never seen anything really official, but in all my ramblings on various SVX sites , I have come to the conclusion that the SVX top speed for 92-93 is 156 mph and 143 mph for 94-97.

'92 and '93 SVXs are also not OBD-II. Personally, I don't see the point in trading your ECU for an older one. I have a '93, and i'd rather have OBD-II than the higher top speed, which I'll probably never see. I've taken mine to 135 and that was enough.

The '92; '93 run up to around 155 is the rumor and the '94 - '97 are limited at some where between 136 and 145 not sure where.
I never have driven any car over 115 for my own sake so i see no need for a few extra MPH at top speed. |

I think the consencus is that no one has tried. I can imagine that the computers are the same, because OBD2 has to set a common code number that older ones did not. I know some manufactures (Ford, Chevy)dealerships have scan tools that can change the top speed limiters. Maybe Subaru can do it too.

i'v had my 94 up to 143-144 MPH once.
I don't think OBD-II can be replaced with nonOBD-II. Something about a 3nd O2 senser after the cats i think. I could be wrong.
