Question Not in the service manuals

I'm wondering if it's in the books? I can check this evening when I get home.

Nope, I'm looking at it right now...

actually, a more accurate question would be, are the opening/closing events listed in .050 inches lift? (it does not specify)

sorry, should have been more specific.

Well, I can tear a head off

the extra engine I have in the garage, but I was kind of hoping to avoid that at this point. I MAY have measured the valves when I replcaed the headgaskets. I'll review my notes and see. I remember using my calipers while I had it apart, but can't remember for what. Sucks getting old.....

OOHH OHHH OHHH!!!!!

do you have the dimensions of the intake and exhaust ports?!?!? Even a closeup pic with a metric ruler next to them would do me a world of good!!

Thanks alot. You are SOOOOO THE MAN!!

BTW- If you gotta go tearing stuff apart, don't worry about it, I know how that can get...

This may help

I know the intake gaskets I used when I rebuilt the motor were virtually identical to the opening in the head. If you're tearing the motor apart, you'll need the gaskets anyway. I took the lower section of the intake (where the injectors mount) off the cylinder head and was amazed that the dimensions were that close.

I didn't remove the exhaust manifolds, but that's an easy job. I'll take it apart this weekend and let you know. I want something in return though. I'll send you a PM with my request

Todd

This is from the book.

CAMSHAFT TIMING.
The stock timings are; inlet opens 2*BTDC closes 54*ABDC, 236* duration,. lobe center 116*ATDC, 11.5mm lift.

Exhaust opens 55*BBDC closes 9*ATDC, 244*duration, lobe center 67*ABDC , 11.8mm lift

Mucho thanks dude.

Hey, did you get that from the std shop manual? If so, what page, cuz it wasn't in the matrix with the other stats in mine

Good news and bad news...

Bad news is I cannot find my notes from the teardown and subsequently cannot locate the valve diamters for you.. However, in my Service Manual, section 2-3, page 46, fig. 82 shows the intake port shape.

Good news, I have removed the exhaust manifold from the other engine and the exhaust ports are 39mm round openings.

Now, about what I wanted from you in return

Well mate, Most is written in the manual, the duration, lobe center and lift is worked out from data found in the manual. The lift is from the camshaft section where it gives the base circle and lobe height dimensions.

I think Lee gave me the data for the valve sizes from his Alldata info along with the lift which he said. was about 7mm. This is not what the book says but I have seen a lot of mistakes in the book like "the brakes are 16" on the front and 15" on the back".

May be Todd could measure the cam base circle and lobe height to be sure.

Harvey.

Hmm.. I just put a "technical review" of the SVX engine in my locker. I found it somewhere on the greater web and it details the engine design in development. There are many details and it makes a good read for those so inclined. Gobble, gobble.
