Re: Desparate

You need a new IRIS because it is leaking oil?

Strange.

Is this a trusted subaru mechanic?

Would it leaking oil indicate a bad iris unit, or a PCV issue?

Re: Desparate

No, the crank case ventilation is blocked, so it is blowing oil into the manifold, and it runs to the lowest point, the butterfly shaft.

Re: Desparate

Where should I check for crank case ventilation blockage? The PCV valve was replaced a few years ago and I don't put much mileage on the car. It looks to be ok.

Check the passages in the air box attached to the throttle bodies. The cam breathers run into each side of it, but they don't open into it, they run right through a passage that comes out on the right hand corner, into a right angled hose that goes into the main air pipe.

Check that the passages that run through it are clear. You will find a lot of oily goo in there.

Harvey.
