Help identify a part

Looking down in between the alternator and the power steering pump reservoir, there is some type of sensor...mine has a small trace of oil coming from the top of it. What is this sensor and is it easy to remove with a socket?

Re: Help identify a part

ok thank you...I searched and it looks like it's a fairly cheap part at autozone for 10.99

Good.
But may I suggest that you only replace it with a Genuine Subaru
"switch assy, oil pre" # 25240KA040.
And here is why, if you use an aftermarket switch it is more than likely that your oil pressure warning light will be on at idle,
causing you to go
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and spew milk and vodka all over your dash board!

The socket used should be a 24mm six point.

Re: Help identify a part

Thanks Tom, I was looking at Advanced auto's sensor and they want 38.99, but it's 100psi...not sure which one to get or what I really need, but I would be safe with the Subaru part number that you have provided. You beat me to asking that question.

Re: Help identify a part

Make sure you use a 6 point socket. A 12 point could round it out. They are pretty soft and are in there TIGHT.

Re: Help identify a part

Is it a reverse thread like the PCV valve?

Re: Help identify a part

The PCV has normal threads too....it's just upside down. when working on it, so it feels like you are tightening it, even though you are loosing in it

Agreed! I learned the hard way with the temp gauge sensor. The aftermarket sensors can be crap.

Re: Help identify a part

All very good info...I picked up my sensor today at the dealership. Apparently they are used in newer subbies too.
