Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
With direct reference to the heading of this thread, I point out that all cars which have proven valuable as a collectors item, have in some way been of special interest. Many have been designed for normal use but have somehow included some specially significant quality.
Does not the existence ot this forum prove a point? It is a fact that members are more than willing to undertake restoration work which is in fact not economically viable, solely on the basis of an inherent special characteristic. What is more several members have acquired more than one SVX. I believe that this proves the point that the SVX is becoming collectable.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
Or it just means then need at least one with a working tranny. As much as I'd like to see it become a collectable, I don't think there will be much collector value for it 20 years from now especially compared to selling the car today and investing in a mutual fund. If you want a sure bet sell your SVX and buy a Civic Hatch Si. Everybody wants the car they wanted when they were a kid and sadly the Civic Hatch was the Rustand of the 90s. The early DSMs would be the Camaro but good luck finding one that still runs.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
Mine has a dead tranny so it is officially a paper weight/collector's car now. I'll keep it covered in the back and resurrect it in 20 years when it is worth something.

I do have a collection of them, but I am not going to hold my breath on them becoming valuable and laughing all the way to the bank.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
Our SVX is still under 16,000 miles. No major work has been done other than regular maintenance, repainting one paint chip, detailing, and replacing those lug nut covers that pop off.
Refer here for proof: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=52004

I gots me a gen-u-ine rebuilt tranny sittin' on a dolly in my tool shed JUST WAITIN' to see some action. But, so far, the one already installed is still shiftin' like new at about 80K of use. NO - the spare ain't for sale. (Of course EVERYTHING has it's price!) Ron.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
I would love another two SVXi A 95, 96 or even a 97 in same colour as hairys one with the tan colour and full leather with BBS rims.
And a 92 JDM 4WS Alcyone for a project. They would become garage queens get taken out in nice hot summer days. My other one is parked up with bad tranny and body is ruffish.

Re: SVX As A Potential Collector Car
Ron you old bugger, you have confirmed that you are a gen-u-ine, real dincum, cool, old school collector.
Congrats and regards from old fart, Trevor. Hey, hey, Trevor - Are you allowed to say words like dincum on this family friendly site?!?! Sorry, but I have to report this breach of propriety to the moderators for review. Ron (shocked & appalled)

Reckless, Ron. No argument. Buggers are lined up to ban me, so make their day. Herewith I fart dincum, but with decorum. Please accurately record the report. Will they block their ears? Gratefully, Trevor. P.S. Anne just came home with the SVX on a dolly. Wet night, greasy road, car in front stopped suddenly, right headlights shot, bonnet/hood bent, radiator ??? However the toe truck driver was great and it happens that we have mutual friends in the motor racing fraternity. Now I do seriously say bugger!
