Empty Nest, WAAAAAAHHHH!!

For the first time in 3 decades, I have no children living at home!

I really miss the pitter-patter of size 10s on the steps!

I had 3 Glorious days 'off' that could have been spent in the garage, but I was so 'Bummed out', that I spent them in the recliner nursing a belly ache!

I used to drink too much for no reason, now I feel the need to drink too much FOR a reason.

I am NOT impressed with the 'arrangements' made by the 'Baby Bird' that left the nest!

It's not really up to me. She has reached the age of majority, so I can only TELL her that she is making a mistake.
I can not chain her up and put her into the basement.....

I don't feel like cooking a big meal for Thanksgiving. I told the wife to get some turkey deli meat and we can have cold sandwiches. As for Christmas, let's just cancel it this year.

Damn!! I hate getting old!

GRRRR!!

Hold on old man, the situation will mature. You have done your best and the best will do.

When great grand kids arrive things will be different, believe me.

I have 5 grandkids now. I didn't feel 'old' untill the last 'bird' flew!

Trevor, you are a wise man. You have helped me through several 'issues' that I have had thrust upon me!

Thank you!!

updates will be forthcoming.

3 weeks ago, Mom fell and broke her leg. She fell in may and broke her arm. I moved in with her for 2 months, till she could do for herself.
I have been trying to figure out how I was going to work full time, deal with all the stuff that I need to do at MY house and be there for Mom too.
She is in a nursing home, (Short stay) till she can get out of bed by herself.

She just turned 90 in August. She will be going home just before Christmas.
In the meantime, My Mother-in-law has been living at my house for 7 years. She has Alzheimers. My wife has been taking care of her. She will be 90 in Feb.

I was hoping that the 'bird' that flew would help take care of the (2) Grandmothers so I could be 'free' to push a few jobs out the door to pay some bills.

I have a customers car that has not been touched for 6 months sitting in my garage, while my car sits outside rusting. I had a car sitting in the driveway when Mom fell in may. I got enough done in Sept. that the owner came and got it. It was a 3 week job, but I was not here to do it!

I have 3 disc compressions, 2 herniated discs, a fractured vert.and arthritus in my back. It hurts to sleep! I have not taken a 'sick' day from work since the eyeball incident 2 years ago.
I sometimes have to stop while walking from my desk to my car so my legs settle down and work well enough to carry me the rest of the way to the car.

I just hope I outlast the (2) 90 year old ladies that need me. (I might even be able to finish some of the cars that are sitting in my way)

I have 'siblings', but.. Sister number 1 is taking care of her husband that is 74 and just had a 'quad' by-pass.
Sister # 2 died of breast cancer a few years back and sister #3 is taking care of her 32 year old son that has a body full of cancer.
Brother #1 is taking care of his blind wife, and trying to get some work done in the shop. Brother #2 has animals that he 'boards' and a wife with MS. Daughter #1 takes care of Grandma after she puts the kids on the bus. Daughter #2 lives 165 miles away and has a son with CP that requires a lot of work.

I am getting tired....BUT... I'm what's left...

Sorry if this looks like a 'Poor Me' post! I actually do have a few things to be thankful for!

My Mom and Dad were/are the BEST people that I have ever met! My Mother-in-law is just about as 'steller' as my own parents. They have made the world a better place by their existance! It is an HONOR to be one of the 'caregivers' for people that have 'given' all their lives.

It does not make the job easier, but it is still necessary.
I have a really great respect for people that chose to take care of their aging parents instead of putting them into a nursing home.
Mom is only there for the therapy. As soon as she gets healed enough to get out of bed by herself, WE will be back at the homeplace.

Re: Empty Nest, WAAAAAAHHHH!!

Jerry,

You have said it all, and with absolute sincerity. We are sad regarding your predicament, but glad that you are coping.

I am sure all reading this will confirm that, whenever you wish again to open your heart, you will have friends listening.

Sincerely, Trevor.

Things could definitely be worse. You could be completely alone.

Sorry for the rant! It was a 'feeling sorry for myself' kinda nite.

But, If you can't talk about you problems with your 'family'... YOU guys and gals ARE like a family!
I have cooked for about 100 of you at OT and Di's house!
That has happened on NO other internet site!

A mention was made about the 'secret'. A British lady loaned me her copy!
I guess I need to watch it again.....

THANKs everyone, I feel a little better now..
