Cigarette outlet not working

My 12v outlet inside the car (cigarette lighter) stopped working. I checked the fuse under the dash and the one marked "Cig/Mirror" is fine. Also all functions of the mirrors still work.

Is there another fuse hidden somewhere just for the outlet? Or could the outlet itself have suddenly gone bad?

Re: Cigarette outlet not working

You tried multiple devices in it right??

If you have a mechanics mirror you can pull the ashtray and take a good look at the wire connection to the rear center of it to make sure its still on there. After that its just testing for voltage down the line to the fuse block and battery.

Re: Cigarette outlet not working

Yep, tested three different devices that all worked in our other car right after.

What really made me think it was a blown fuse was the last time it worked was with a plug in compressor inflating a tire (being lazy and not using the real compressor that was buried in the garage). On the third tire and 10 minutes in, it died. I assumed it was the compressor overheating at the time.

Until I tried using something else in the outlet the other day.

Since the fuse at the box is fine, I was thinking there might be a secondary fuse only for the lighter further down the line. But not the case I guess.

Have to investigate and probably take everything apart.

Interesting! That's an exact replay of what happened when my cigarette lighter quit working. Could not find a fuse blown.

svxcess posted some info on this - about a fusible link on the lighter (he replaced with a wire).

Re: Cigarette outlet not working

It's most likely the fusable link on the side of the lighter itself is blown. I hope you have small hands!

.

It is the fusible link on the back of the socket. I am not sure of its purpose since the circuit is fused but my discovery can be found in THIS POST

Here is a photo of the culprit:

Re: Cigarette outlet not working

Really nice post you did on the cigarette lighter fusible link. Great picture, explains it all.. Just a darn cigarette lighter anyway, who would have known..I'm interested to see if its in the S.M., good of Subaru to think of an overheat possibility and have a safety device in place.
Possibly you can help with my 'no shift from 1st gear' problem. I have it posted, Anyway this was excellent.. I am sure its thanks from many..
