Re: R-12 or R-134?

The dryer is plugged because of either the desiccant being broken down by the mixed oils or because the slugde I warned about earlier has shelled the compressor. I don't see that it would be possible to remove 100% of the contaiminated oil from the system but you could try by taking it to a shop that has the tools to flush the system. It is then a matter of removing the retrofit connectors, replacing the receiver/dryer with an OEM unit for r-12, vaccuming the system down and adding refrigerant and the oil designed for 12 or one of the oils that is supposedly compatible with both. That is of course assuming your compressor isn't damaged. You may choose to remain with the 134a since the damage has been done, but if you do you should investigate what would be required to replace the dryer with one for 134a. I am sorry to say that this damage is something I am starting to see alot, and it is a direct effect of the retrofits done in the late 90s.
