Problem with skid plate bolts

Anyone ever had trouble with the bolts that hold the skidplate/undercovering piece on?

My whole undercover fell off while driving too fast because the holes in the plastic had worn too big for the little bolts to hold them on w/o washers.

I'd like to put it back on with maybe some upsized bolts/washers, but there are still 2 of the bolts stuck in their positions.

They spin freely and won't tighten or loosen, they just spin loose in there. Could it be these are the wrong size someone stuck in there at some point?

Re: Problem with skid plate bolts

Looks to these old eyes like the final portion of the bolt is not threaded, allowing it to just rotate freely. Have you tried exerting upward pressure on the bolt with a prybar, while unthreading it, to get the threads started?

Re: Problem with skid plate bolts

I've not had that problem with them, but I have had 2 that seized up and the heads twisted off.

Re: Problem with skid plate bolts

You can do what I do/did. After getting the bolt out use small plastic wire ties to hold it up. When you need to change your oil you just cut them. They are very inexpensive and they work just fine

Re: Problem with skid plate bolts

I believe there is some kind of insert that each of these bolts actually screw into.
I put washers on the bolts on mine that would keep the thing from coming down over the bolt heads.
Works great for me.

Re: Problem with skid plate bolts

Every single bolt on my skid plate got the heads twisted off so I have no plate and I have to drill out the studs left in the holes

Yeah definitely my plan once I get these two stubborn ones off. Besides, I need one of them to figure out what threads on need on the new bolts I'll have to buy.

Re: Problem with skid plate bolts

I think I have one of those bolts and about 8 zip-ties holding my skid plate and wheel well skirts on, the rest of the bolts have the heads twisted off. I had one skirt pull loose and end up under the wheel at highway speeds. That smelt nice.
