I midaswell have my input. I bought my car with a faulty tranny (Who hasnt?) after replacing it, I noticed the power light is burnt out....which explains why the tranny was fried

Hiya,
With your "automatic power function" how long will power actually stay active for under acccleration? is it all the time you have the throttle down or only for a given time? It seems a curious situation and I cant see any logic or benefit in your system when the JDM had the manual switch to either turn the fuction on full time or off to automatic like yours. Darren

No worries, it took me a while to figure out what "5MT" meant, and like 2 months to figure out what this "USDM" thing people kept talking about was.

Yeah, Phil, I have posted this a number of times as well. I compared a number of tanks of fuel though, not just the one, Power mode permanently on, or switched off [which was on demand, really ]
I got 2 mpg difference once, but only one mpg difference for two or three tanks. Same as you, I eventually left it switched on, full time. In fairness to Cosykat, driving a US car or a standard UK car with Power mode on all the time would be very sore on juice!! The only way you can do that is with your foot to the floor all the time. It could be hazardous to your life, your license, your sanity and your freedom [cops would lock you up] For anyone who has not driven the Japanese model with the switch for turning on the Power mode shift map, the principal difference in driving is the gearbox will hold the lower gears for longer, rather than slipping up into the next higher gear at 1200 or 1400 rpm. This does not give any magic extra power, as has been suggested in the dim past. However, it does feel better to drive, because the engine revs being higher drive the axles with more torque. As I said, the only penalty [with my driving style anyway] is 1 to 2 mpg heavier consumption. Joe

Also when you go into power mode the car will shut off your A/C compressor to give you the max power it can, it comes back on as you ease up on the throttle. Figure 15HP maybe?

10 maybe, and only if you've got it blasting.

In the Japanese ones, even though the car can be driven with Power mode shift map on all the time, the aircon still works and the compressor does its job. The ECU [rather than the TCU] controls the aircon pump and turns off the compressor when the car is accelerating hard. So it is probably the case that the ECU turns off the compressor at or near WOT conditions based on preset parameters in the software. It is a coincidence that in the models with Power mode available only on demand that green light/Power mode cuts in for the same WOT conditions as turns off the A/C compressor. Joe
