Spark plugs

Hey guys,

I am looking for spark plug replacement and so far it seems like there are two types... platinum and iridium. Whats the difference? I mean between platinum and iridium... what is better?

There is also OE Style Laser Platinum, and OE Style Laser Iridium... the Laser Platinum for some reason costs more...

Thanks in advance,
-Sov.

The laser platinum has platinum on both sides of the spark and are stock plugs for the SVX. They are expensive but are guaranteed to work from the start.

I've been told to stay away from Bosch plugs (+2/+4 etc)

I've been running bosch +2 for a year now. Never had a problem, but I would recommend staying away from autolite, or any really cheap plugs.

Well I use bosch plus 4 without any issues, plus I work for the company.Autolite nonresistor nonplatium wa used fo many years running a dual stage zex system between 125 and 150 with no issues.I would checked the contantly.T he only reason I RAN TE CHEAP ONES IS BECAUSE guys with 450 to 520whp mustangs use them so why did. Also riding around I did nt see much difference.T he bosch plus 4 seem to increase your torque.Go with the iridium if you plan on spraying and drivng the car constantly, that way they may be less to worry but I TRIED EVERY plug out there and there is still one that does what it say that I am shocked no one mentioned it.They are going into my new engine.Do not ask what they are you will find out later.good luck

A friend turned me on to some nology plugs made from silver. All I READ MADE SENSE so what the hell, the svx is not listed but the have the correct plug, but my engine is toast and smokes sometimes and ticks,my time in the 1/8 mile was 9.58 at 74 now with bad rings I can still run a 9.95 at 70 well after the plugs the smoker ran 9.83 at 72 and 4 other 9.8 passes.I think this silver plug just put out a hotter spark, both the idle is very rough so I put back my bosch plus 4s.Also I think I need a little longer plug because the ones I have or just so shorter than stock. Please do not go out by this plug because I tested them,my car has bad rings and is still faster than stock so leave the testing to the guys that really run there cars. With my new motor I plan on trying to get a 14.5 on motor and a high 12 with drag radials and a direct port 175 shot,it'll blow or go.

So does anyone have an answer/opinion to the original question?
Plantium or iridium?
NGK's website lists both of them as "oem".
Did our cars come with platinum plugs just because iridiums weren't out/feasable yet?
According to searches iridium both lasts longer and is a better conductor.
And is cheaper then platinum.

Any ideas?
Has anyone ever done dynos on our engines with different plugs?
Or at least butt dynos?

Someone tell me what to use so I don't have to think for myself.
