The SVX is already OBEASE so don't make it worse...

I'm looking for some new rims that I can use with a set of summer tires and for a while was strongly considering the TL Type S wheels (not exactly the same as the CL rims but VERY similar). Anyways, I lost interest very quickly when I discovered they weigh 25.6 lbs PER WHEEL !!! They do look good, but I just wasn't ready to sacrifice another 20+ lbs (rotational weight mind you) when our cars are already bloated to the braking point. I'm not sure on the weight of the MazdaSpeed rims, but IMO the design is too modern for the SVX.

then you are looking for a set of Mazda Rx-7 wheels. 12-16lbs each(depending on which year you get) not to mention they are 16x8's so stuffing on 245 maybe even 255 tires is a breeeze. Best wheel for cheap availabe to us

Tom, what model rx-7 wheels are you talking about? The FC's or the FD's?

Yeah those are FD wheels.

I had no idea they were so light! Mazda probably did that because their rotaries don't make much torque..

12 lbs PER WHEEL !!!!! Which model year used the 12 lb rims?!?!? I thought all RX-7 wheels were about 16 pounds. I like the look of them on the SVX, but was really wanting some 17's and so didn't give them too much thought. HOWEVER, if these bad boys can drop 32 pounds of weight from my shoes, maintain a clean almost stock look , AND if I only have to pay about as much as I do for a tank of gas for the SVX these days (well maybe not that cheap but DEFINITELY A LOT cheaper then some lightweight aftermarket rims), then these may be the wheels for me ! The best part is I can use the money I save to scratch at least a couple more things of my mod list...cause I think we all know those high-flow cats and Brembo rotors don't pay for themselves .

- Case

P.S. If these things weigh 12 lbs per wheel, to me it seems that it would be impossible not to feel improvements in performance/handling. Am I wrong here? I just figure you must see some improvement cause it is like running a marathon wearing ballet slippers instead of lead lined boots. On the other hand a 600 lb man looks a lot like a guy who weighs 500 lbs, so maybe since the SVX already weighs so much that this won't make a difference. Wow...That is a long P.S. Anyways, any enlightenment that can be brought on the matter would be much appreciated.

I love my rims, mine weigh 15.75 per rim, I honestly think you can tell the difference acc., decc., handling, and braking.

Rx7 Wheel Weight?

I wasn't aware there was any weight difference in Gen III Mazda RX7 wheels. There does seem to be a difference of opinion as to just what they really weigh. I got mine from a local Mazda race shop and when I carried them they were light! But even though I am a Weightlifting coach, I can't say for sure my wheels weighed less than 15-18 lbs, but definitely less than 20. I have a naked wheel I can weigh to see for sure.
How can you tell what year a wheel is?
I'll ask if the race shop knows what the weight is or if they know of that large of a weight variance by year.
Frankly I find it hard to believe wheels of this size could only be 12 lbs. The only 15lb. 16x8 wheel I've seen is a v. expensive forged racing wheel. That's why the RX7 wheels are such a great value. You can put some big meats on your wheels (I've got 245/45 Avon Tech M500s) with no rubbing with stock ride height. And your saving several lbs. of unsprung weight over the OEM wheels, which I think are 25 lbs. If that's accurate, with a larger tire a 245 weighing 2-3 more lbs than a 225, you are still at least 5-7 lbs lighter at each corner. More traction, improved acceleration, better ride, better handeling and better stopping. Subtle improvements, but improvements your seat will feel.
