Question Looking to Buy a '92

I am looking to buy a 1992 SVX LS-L, but have a few questions.

Is it worth paying $800 for a silver 92 with 228k on this engine? The trans has been redone recently and the body/interior are in very good shape.

It needs new front cv joints, the odometer and fuel gauge don't work (but the speedometer and tachometer do), light knocking so probably needs a new crank sensor.

It has good acceleration and drives well except for the cv joint on the front passenger side.

I have been looking at tips about fixing things, but can anyone estimate how much it would cost if I had a mechanic replace both cv joints in the front? Or maybe just the right cv joint and left cv boot? Also, any ideas on how to fix the odometer and fuel guage?

Welcome to the site.

I would worry about other things besides the engine. They are bullet proof and if running good now, just fix the rest of it and you are good to go. Do a search on the CVs and there is some discussion about the cost. The odometer may need to have a new cluster put in, but used, that isn't much.

I think ANY car that runs, has a recently rebuilt transmission (with supporting paperwork?), and no rust is worth eight hundred bucks. If it turns out to be junk you can probably recover your expenditure by selling the windshield and wheels alone.

I've never seen an SVX that wasn't worth $800. (Naturally leaving out gutted parts cars of course.)

If you have the time to repair any problems yourself (With the help of the experts in here.), My personal opinion is to buy it now.

There's enough parts cars here to get most of what you may need.

Thumbs up

Ok I m going to buy the car tomorrow and drive it back to my place with a bad cv joint. I kind of got scared about the windshield costing $1000 to replace, but that is what car insurance is for right?

Immediate needs are replacing both front cv joints changing the knock sensor and fixing the gas guage.

As soon as I get pictures, I will post them.
