Bricklin tries to pop a Chery....

read that Malcolm Bricklin, who brought Subaru (and Yugo <shudder>) to the U.S. is trying to bring the Chinese car company Chery here.

will their first sedan be the Chery Impara?

The ones you can't say "L" sounds is Japanese. So we've gone through that already. The problem is Chery will be fighting an uphill battle against a fully mobilized Hyundai. You say that Chery has a V8 sedan, guess what Hyundai has a V8 sedan in Korea they could easily bring over. Even though it would be nice to see more nations chock into the American or worldwide automotive market for that matter. When are we going to see Alfas in the states?

Have you seen a single subtitled Bruce Lee, Jacky Chan or even Jet Lee film? Ok perhaps I didn't put it in correct tense. When I said something about the Chinese having a V8 sedan, I was saying it in sort of a retort way if someone but not you told me they have a RWD V8 that will be much cheaper then the American or German competition, I showed Hyundai is just as capable and already have the stuff at hand within their country. I am just saying Chery will have a hard time contending with Hyundai.

And as for wanting Alfa Romeos in the states, you haven't seen

or

have you?

Don't forget about his own car, the Bricklin. Part American, part Canadian, completely crap

And my Chinese buddy can't pronounce his "L''s so it's not just the Japanese

i'm sorry - i know a lot of people consider those attractive cars, but i think they are puke-inducing. just plain nasty.

i think i've seen ONE modern Alfa (forget the model) that was OK looking besides the "Graduate Spyder", but IMHO, they are NOT nice looking cars.

Hyundai won't being their upscale sedans here any time soon... Doesn't fit their "affordable" brand image.

As for Chery, the more, the merrier. As long as those cars don't look like cookie-cutter Bonnevilles and Malibus and whatnot.

The Brera is the closest thing to owning a modern SVX as it is designed by ITALDesign and the highest trim comes in AWD with a 250hp V6. But the price is as well something of what a modern SVX would cost, around $40k. The funny part was the Brera was designed with the US in mind since its on a platform that was co-designed with GM and uses a GM based engine but completely tuned by Alfa, but I guess once more that didn’t come to be since Fiat Spa broke ties with GM, funny enough they still have the platform and engine

I would also like to see the 147 GTA in North America since we seriously lack hot hatches, especially RWD ones. The only other hope of a RWD hatch lies in BMW and their 1 series but they seem to be too chicken to try to what they say as "jeopardize their luxury image," which I think is complete bs btw.

Not at all. He just has trouble with his L's. They don't pronounce their names like we do.

Chery has some nice looking convertables, I can see that as an advantage over hyundai. And hyundai is slowly breaking into a "not as affordable" market. I think its been a hard run for them trying to make a good name over here but they aren't doing a half bad job anymore. (not that id ever want to be seen in one)
