If you lock the doors and then hold up the handle as you close it, the doors will stay locked. A lot of cars from Japan built in the 90's do this.

You still have an alternator from the parts car Michelle?
I guess it doesn't matter where it's from, how much do you want for it? Yeah, I guess my 'bad' luck just had to turn into 'horrible' luck. Deja |

thundering02,
That I can think of off the top of my head, 90' Mazda 626 and the older Toyota Camray (might have actually been a late 80's) Im sure there were others though.....

Weird cars! I had a similar experience at the gas station shortly after getting mine. I turned off the motor and exited the car to pump my fuel, leaving my keys like I always do. When done I returned to find the door locked. WTH?? Luckily happened in the Springtime and I had left the window open!!
I have yet to leave the keys in the ignition since! And the alarm module subsequently died, leaving me to wonder if that was the culprit. I've been driving at least 1 family Subie since 83 and I'm sure my Acura's and Honda's did not have the "hold up on door handle" feature to lock them. First dozen times I did that the door just sprung back/open in my hand. Glenn

I'm on my 4th alternator now and I keep a meter plugged into my lighter socket telling me how the alternator is doing. I suggest you do the same Deja. They should cost <$10.

Alternator
Hi Deja, So maybe your alternator is OK. The big auto parts chains will test your charging system for free. Give it a shot. Hope your moms tranny is not ruined. Have a nice whatever your going to have and take care of yourself. BOBB

Thanx for all the posts.
I guess I didn't have my alt. rebuilt last year. I bought a new one (I don't remember) anyhow.....I'm not sure what to do about that right now. I let it set for a few days, and drove it without any problems for a few more days. But last night, it did it again. Just died, and everything shut off. I got it to the side of the road, and shut it off, and tried to start it. It worked...for a while, but the engine was reving funny. And when I turned on my hazards, all the lights were dimming, getting brighter, dimming,..ect. Then the car died. I tried to start it again, but it grinded very badly. I must have done that 5 times, and gave up. It wouldn't start, just grinding noises. (Hey at least it didn't completely die..) I had a few friends help push it more off the road, and got a ride home. Anyhow.......My step dad said I might have killed the flywheel by having it towed(Last year...) so I paid to have it put on a flat bed tow truck (My dad wouldn't help me tow it home...) My question is....Is it true that you can't tow an automatic?? (By putting it in neutral?) And... What could be wrong with the car, if it won't start, and makes a grinding noise? Someone said it might be the starter, or the flywheel. Either way, I can't really afford to get it fixed right now Deja |

The grinding is between the starter gear and the ring gear (part of the torque converter in the tranny. Sounds like the ring gear has one or more chipped teeth. You can tow an auto in neutral, the thing to watch out for is that you have either 0 or 4 wheels on the ground. Towing with 2 wheels on the ground will almost certainly damage the AWD. The grinding is definately not as a result of towing. I was thinking the starter is sticking on but then you'd find that out pretty quick once you burn out the starter.
