Regardless, there will be an XLR-V (with at least the LS7, if not the V12) that should debut at the auto show in january, along with the STS-V, ESC-V (twin turbo escalade ), and an LS4 (the 5.3L, 390hp V8 that will also debut in the Trailblazer SS) powered SRX-V. I think that just about covers it.

Yeah i'm excited.
I don't think the 5.3 will be pushing 390hp. It's going into the Grand Prix GXP, and in there it will have 290hp. I think almost 400hp stock is a little overkill on fwd anyway

Wow, you got me in my own area of expertise. I really had to think for a minute before I realized that you do know what you're talking about and i'm the one who screwed up here.

I noted the engine going in the SRX-V and Trailblazer SS would be the LS4. I'm wrong. Well sorta. Both the GP-GXP and SRX-V will be getting the 5.3L V8, however the LS4 designation will only be used for the grand prix's transverse mounted motor. I believe the designation for the SRX-V powerplant will be LQ4. Not positive about that. However, this will give way perfectly to my point...they are two very different engines. The GP-GXP will be getting the 300hp, aluminum block, transverse mount motor, while the Trailblazer SS and SRX-V will be getting a 390hp, Iron block, longitudinal mount motor. I'm pretty positive the 5.3 LQ4 retains the favored Vortec heads, whereas the LS4 will use the LS-favored heads which are similiar in design to GM's prized "fast-burn" design.

Thanks for pointing that out. majeskyb 1, shadow 0

are they going to be RWD, or an exercise in torque steer?

the GXP will be FWD for it's release. It also will not be available with a manual transmission (I would be surprised if it ever would be). However it will gain the option of AWD in 2006 (along with the Bonne GXP).

The transmissions for both GXP's use equal length halfshafts. Torque steer is pretty much non-existent.

What ever happened to stuff like "Electra" "Grand Marquis" "Roadrunner" "Satellite" "Thunderbird" "Imperial" etc, ACTUAL NAMES, not just letters.

I mean, I like the SVX but I think it'd be better if it had a REAL name, not just some random grouping of letters. The good news is that I think they're going to run out of combinations soon.

but WRX, GTR, SRT4 are trim levels, not models

1 - "WS6" and "SLP Firehawk" are two different cars. You can't get the WS6 option on a Firehawk.

2 - Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 is the correct terminology and is quite long winded, yes. However it is actual words...and only includes ONE of the cryptic alphanumeric combinations, which is what I was complaning about.

1. i know - just exaggerating like you were.

2. what's the big deal? i'd gladly drive a "Subaru WRX STi ABC 123 DEF 456 GHI" if it kicks ass and is reliable in any weather condition. it would be too difficult to have an entirely different name for each trim level for each market.
