Browser question (no svx content (at all))

Hi all, I'm doing more video for Defenshield and went to my site stat page and I guess I'm the only one using Netscape with ANY regularity...

So, here's the question. Is everyone using IE? and does the WMV (Windows Media Video) work for everyone (including Apple)?

I certainly don't want to exclude anyone but the WMV format seems to be small, quick, and clean. Does it work under the MAC OS's 9, 10, 10.3... ?

A 20mm (inert of course) to the first correct answer.

I'm also using Safari, under OSX 10.3... and WMV works fine. However, I prefer quicktime, that way I don't have to use the WMV player, it's ugly.

I don't like quicktime. The new WMV 9 format is just prefect for me.

Lwin, what browser and video prog are you using? I want to make sure that moving from .mpg to .wmv isn't going to leave a lot of people without access to the videos.

I still run Mac 9, and Windows Media Player works fine (did the last time I used it, anyway).

if you are going to use WMV as your disto format, make sure you use the oldest WMV encoder. I assume macs should be able to read 7.x. 9.x too perhaps but I highly doubt it on the new 9.2

I wouldn't do that. MPG is a standard cross platforum unbiased codec. WMV is more proprietary. Mp3 is a standard. AAC is not the standard, in comparison to mp3.

Keep it .mpg.

I think what they're trying to say is that there is no right answer.

The best format to use would be the one that works on the most computers without the need to install additional software/codecs.

In that case I would have to say MPG or AVI (not DivX)

Hi Collins, I am using OS X 10.3 and have tried downloading a program for divx and avi. Neither worked. wmv works, mpg works most times and of course quick time is good and will work on windows as well. Take care, BOBB

P/S Have been using Netscape but am trying Safari now. If I like it I will stick with it. "B"
