In my experience with the power light, it doesnt matter how far down the accelerator pedal is, but rather how rapidly i push it. For instance, if i slowly accelerate to WOT, no power light. But, if im just driving normally and snap to half throttle very fast, the power light comes on. Its just subarus name for "sport" or "performance" type transmission modes. The tranny shifts faster and higher, giving you the effect of more power by dragging gears out longer. When the alternator is going out, usually the brake light, power light, and several others come on. Im not sure if it was intended that way, as it seems every car i own does the same thing, but its a warning to a dying alternator

One more cause to light.
There is one other cause for the power light to come on. That is when the ATF gets too hot, the little warning light comes on "hot ATF" in the little car picture and the TCU puts it into power mode to increase the engine speed to help cool the ATF.
Harvey.
