ANOTHER XT6 Question

Okay, so the XT6 has not been the ideal commuter car. It been running okay for the past 2 weeks, but its really showing it's age. The main thing that concerns me now is it seems to have a problem with the fuel system. At highway speeds, the car seems to hesitate and lose power about every 1-2 miles. Just giving it a little gas doesn't do anything, I need to floor it to get it going again. I don't really know if this is damaging the engine, but it's annoying as hell when you drive 150mi a day. It was doing this to me last winter, too, and a new fuel filter cured the problem, but that didn't work this time. It seems speed more than temp is related, because it does it worse the faster I go. Just driving around town, it doesn't even do anything. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking about selling it, and I don't like pawing my problems on other people. I'm gonna post this one on the XT6 site tonite when I get home too, but I can use all the help I can get. Thanks.

The tranny isn't slipping is it? When you punch it does it downshift (assuming it is an auto). Is it running overly rich?

Might want to try posting over on the xt6 site: www.xt6.net

Personally with the mileage on your car I would think the XT6 would make an ideal commuter. Parts are fairly plentiful in junkyards plus it rides and drives very similar to the SVX. The Legacy Turbo is a great car as well but can be fairly pricey to maintain compared to a stadard Legacy.

Understatement if I ever heard one......but of course this only applies if you get one that wasn't taken care of....The labor to get mine fixed was quite more than I paid for it and enough to have paid for something newer with considerably lower mileage to boot. On the flip side, I LOVE my Turbo and wouldn't trade it for anything and given all that has been fixed on it, should be trouble free for another 100k.

Pull the vucumn line off the "Fuel Pressure Regulator" and see if it smells of gas, if it does the diaphram is ruptured, this has been know to have those same effects

Uhhh...okay...I'll be sure to tell my mechanic that. Trust me, I'm an insult to the word "Mechanic". Thanks to everyone for the help, though. The Legacy was a no go, so I'm still stuck with this.

Well, I think my problems have gone from annoying to bad.

Kudos to benebob to the correct answer, I think my trannie is f'ed. Today coming to work, I only had 3rd gear, no matter what. Coming from a dead stop, 3rd. At 80 on the highway, 3rd. Not matter what I did, what gear I put it in, it was in 3rd. Reverse still worked though, and on the bright side, the hesitation pretty much stopped. It still did it, but only 3-4 times, compared to about every couple of miles, and it came right out of it the couple times it did it. When I got to work this morning, I check the fluid, and it looked good. I dumped about a 1/2 quart in anyway, and it started shifting again, but the hesitation came back again too. Any fresh ideas?

I just talked to my mechanic and he suggested changing the fluid, so I'm gonna do that when I get home, along with new plugs. Is there any kind of fluid filter on the trannie that I should change, too?

If the trannie is dead, my mechanic has a used one sitting there for $300 plus labor (about $24 an hour, I think.) Sound like a fair price?

And again, thanks for all the help.

Yeah that sounds pretty good for a tranny. Remember the XT6 has the same tranny as the SVX and Legacy.

There is a filter in the pan, that would be a good ideal to change.
Plus the cooler in the radiator could be stopped up, so adding a aftermarket cooler (a good ideal anyway) could be in order, as the XT6 uses the 4EAT, just like the SVX, only with a different bell housing, so heat is it's enemy.
