With a 5-speed conversion, and L model AWD SVX weighs about 3400 lbs. (My 4eat L model with 1/2 tank of gas weighed in at 3490 lbs on the local junkyard scale which is accurate to within 10 lbs.) ok, that's 300 lbs more than a WRX, but 3400 lbs is exactly the weight of the (in)famous Skyline GT-R33 and R34. Yes, you can call the SVX heavy if you want, but if you compare it to other cars that are potentially in the same class, the SVX doesn't score so badly.

I don't think it would be necessary to extend the front of the car to accommodate a turbo. You will have to be inventive in your placement of components though. Try the ForcedAirTech website to see where they stuffed their turbo. The intercooler can be placed in the wheelwell between the body of the car and the plastic splash shield.

That would leave you a car that could only do about 30 going forwards and maybe 140 in reverse. Steering would be a bit twitchy, especially at speeds like that.

You need to watch more Junkyard Wars - I'd flip the differentials upside-down.

That is one good episode. Perhaps those guys might have won if the tranny did not fail.

Supras weigh 3515 lbs.

SVXs weigh 3525lbs.

I really don't think they're that heavy... I mean, compared to a metro, yeah, but not compared to most GTs.

Its in the same class as an Skyline? The problem is the extra weight of a turbo or super system. So about 3500lbs?
---
I am beginning to think it would be a shame to strip mint SVX. How much does a beater with trans trouble, and “a lion in the back seat” go for?
---
My goal is something I can drive around town, but has a high top speed so I can find a salt flat on the weekend and run WOT until I'm out of gas . Since the car is so rare maybe put an unofficial "California's fastest street legal SVXes" title under my belt.

If your goal is just to go WFO, buy a 1992-93 LS-L and just do a few mods. In stock form, they can and will go 160 mph. If you plan on doing it often, then you should do a few mods like add an ATF cooler and update the suspension.

As long as the TC will lock up, I've had no problem going 140 mph. Last time I tried, I did it going up a mild incline. When the TC won't lock (ATF too cold), I can't get much above 125 mph.

so if the torque converter doesnt lock, you cant surpass 120 or so? can this be the reason i am topping out at 125 even after testing it can do over 140?

My car is fine. The engine is fine, the transmission is fine. The windshield and 1/4 panel, thats another story, but mechanically, its tip top. Last time I posted my spring to 125, a few of you said it was so slow, but I also got QUITE A FEW pms telling me not to listen to the trolls, because their car is the same way.
