Question Anyone have access to police stuff?

As I mentioned here some friends and I will soon begin work on an independent movie.

Today I'm looking for police props, or sources where we might be able to obtain them for cheap. Nothing has to be real of course, just look real.

Here's some examples, but anything else you can think of may be helpful:

Uniforms
Badges
Equipment belts with handcuffs, stick, etc
That cool yellow 'crime scene' tape
Light bars and stuff to turn a car into a cop car

I don't need anything immediately, I'm just getting a feel for things. We're working with a pretty limited budget so things would have to be donated or borrowed when the time comes. Of course you would get due credit in the closing credits, copy of the DVD, etc.

Don't think we have anyone here that would have any of this, but it is worth a shot. Thanks!

The paraphernalia would be easier to borrow than the vehicle, and you could probably get cadets who'd like to show off in a video if you don't have people yet. The crime scene tape is available cheap at Blumenthal's uniform shop in King Co, I used to have a roll. They also have all that equipment stuff, but you're probably better off borrowing it and I'm not sure they'd sell it to civilians. I can probably locate several light blue uniform shirts of various sizes (without patches), and one or two sets of equipment, or real uniforms, if that's any help. Pants are usually just plain navy blue creased slacks, not too distinguishable from Dockers, and shoes are just polished black boots. I'd lend you mine, if you'd think they'd fit your actors.

I bet I could get a hold of some handcuffs for ya. You might have a hard time getting the cop to take them off my wrists and give them to you, though .

<<Uniforms>> Try a uniform rental place.
<<Badges>> I know a couple of online sites where you can get them cheap.
<<Equipment belts with handcuffs, stick, etc >> see above.
<<That cool yellow 'crime scene' tape >> same
<<Light bars and stuff to turn a car into a cop car >> That will be expensive. I do have wigwags and strobes on my car and I can get the strobe schematics for free if you want to build them.

i have access to the light bar, my b/f builds police cars for a living. i would go with Lwin on this, the strobes and wigwags would be cheaper and a lot of the new police cars don't have the light bars, personally i think they look better that way.

(if you want info on the light bar, pm me and we will see from there)

I could get a dash strob for you when you need it. I was a Fire Chief for quite a few years and still have some of my equipment that I purchased. Let me know when you get closer to the shooting time.

just a thought

Did you think about asking your local police station? For a small "donation" they may let you borrow some of the stuff you need as long as an officer is there to make sure you don't "abuse the priveledge".

Wow this is all great advice! I will start communicating with you all individually very soon. And I'll check into the local police stations as well. It will be nice to know what we can and can not do a couple months before shooting so we can adjust the script as necessary.

Keep the ideas comin'!

talked to my b/f last night and he has a lightbar for sale, both sides are blue, you would just need to purchase a lens for one side that is red if you wish, or both. he also has a siren for sale. he could also get a price on strobes and on wigwags. pm me if you want prices
