Would somebody be willing to take a picture of what needs to be tightned? I'm going to be doing my front brakes next weekend and I want to get this noise taken care of.

I can explain it to you. It's the two bolts that hold the caliper onto the dust shield, and if I recall correctly, they're about... 17mm. The caliper itself has a 12mm bolt that you take out, swing it upwards, but it's where all that attaches ot the car, there are two 17mm bolts that screw outward from the inside of the dust pan. Once you have you're wheel off just peek behind and you'll see em. The SVX brakes are really pretty easy to work on.

Anyway, use some of the anti squeal compound as well, just make sure to let it cure before you install them.

G'luck!

I know exactly what you're talking about now.
Thanks.

I will try anything to silence the noise...

Rattles and clunking and way too much spent on the replacement of rubber bits. And still the mystery noise. Which is why I keep coming back to this site! Pivot bolt! I will have my tech take a turn at this. I have already replaced just about every darn rubber bit there is and my tech looks really unhappy about the prospect of replacing the trans mount -- he had a tough time with the rear diff mounts. Oh to have a silent car to drive the poorly paved roads in paradise. Tonight, I will dream...

Mahalo in advance. IF this does not work there could be a very nice SVX reef feature off the South shore of Oahu, just like some old fool did his Rolls off of Palm Beach.

It isn't the pivot bolt. Read my post above.

Hola

I was experiencing the same loud clunks coming from my svx not to long ago. My problems were that both front struts were shot completely, the ball joint on the bottom of what I would like to say was the a-arm(?) and some little black rubber bushings shaped like a "U" that holds some kind of skinny metal bar that I assume has something to do with the suspension. I tend to forget the actual names of the parts, my apologies. But I replaced them all along with the strut mounts and it drives like a champ once again.

Adios

My car does that too. It doesn't just do it over bumps, though. Took it to get looked at today and turns out I need a new sway bar. He says $75 w/installation...

Which bolt? One of the back two that hold the caliper on? Or the one that holds the caliper DOWNWARD???
