security system question

Just purchased a 92 SVX and had an issue with restarting the engine at a gas station. The security system woulden't let it crank. After moving wires around, and slamming the deck lid down it started to get it home. We don't care about having the security system work right now and the car didn't come with an owners manual.
What can we do to disengage the security system from the car (ingition system?)

thanks,

Scott

Do you want to disable security or just make sure the car starts regardless of security system status.

if security, remove glove box find security module and unplug. not hard but tedious because must be 15+ screws.

if just starting, have to find the relay under the dash and make a hardwire connection across the appropriate wires. The security system (when working properly) provides ground to trigger a normally closed relay, which, in the alarm state, then opens the ignition wire to starter.

You should review a wiring schematic before accepting this advice, my system never worked, I ended up replacing it as being an easier solution.

Thanks for the reply! right now he just wants it to start. There are enough things to fix on the car right now, he'll mess with the security system later. Again thanks.

Talking starter interupt relay

The starter interupt relay is under the dash near the steering column, I believe. I decided not to add this feature when installing my after-market alarm (wanted keyless entry mainly). In my car, the wire that is interupted by the starter interupt relay (cut, with two connectors for the relay, if used) is connected using an "adaptor" to simply connect this (IGN) wire to bypass the starter interupt feature [then you can't get stranded!].

These are big wires! Partly why I didn't bother to install a relay for interupt feature.

The wire that goes to the relay(that gets interupted) that you have is BLACK/white connecting to terminal 2 (B73 connector, square, four terminal) as below:

[2][1]
[4][3]

The other end that goes to the starter (inhibiter switch first) is BLUE/white (BLACK/white in Canada) connected to terminal 4.

So!, you need to connect the wires after removing from terminals 2 and 4 from starter interupt relay by using the OEM adaptor (?) or by making your own good connector.

This is easier to understand if you're looking at page 44 in factory shop manual (Section 6). I don't know how to scan to computer - sorry!

Hope this helps a little. Remember, I'm not a mechanic - Use my info at your own risk.
