Unless what you're referring to is the central lock button on the console next to the shifter.

Power Button
I am becoming confused here. Does the US version of the SVX not have a Power Button ?

Even more confused.
Does the US version of the SVX have a power button ? Mine does and it works.

Hi Paddles,
Nice of you to come up and terminate my confusion. But to be honest I am becoming more confused as it is becoming very clear that there are a lot of people who only have half of a fair dinkum real SVX on a number of counts. Special regards to you and I hope the weather is allowing you to drive topless often. Trevor.

First snow is due here soon, so the topless motoring will have to wait a little!

Cjoffe, try this:
Put the tranny in "Manual Mode". Move shifter into 1st gear. Drive the car, moving the shifter into higher or lower gears as needed or desired (remember that you can upshift without pressing the top button of the shifter, but to downshift into second you will need to). Now maybe the system wasn't designed for this purpose, but it works really well and is a lot of fun. You can do this without putting it into Manual Mode, but it seems to work a lot better if you do (the tranny is a lot less likely to downshift on its own). An absolute blast on twisty back roads where you can hold the tranny in second gear and actually ACCELERATE when you put your foot down (ever try to accelerate when the car is doing 40 mph in 4th gear?). My two cents Dave |

any pics of the power button? how could we add one - are there any JDM wiring diagrams that would help? i imagine its not too complicated.

Power Mode Light
I'm not sure, but I believe it's directly wired to your low fuel light...hehehe

I thought that the power mode in the transmission changed the shiftmap AND locked up the torque converter (I have no clue what that means so please enlighten me). Does this mean that it locks it 50/50 front rear, or make the engine "grab" a gear and its speed be directly tied to how fast the car is moving and what gear it is in. (the opposite being the way that if you're driving in the city at about 30-50 mph and if you hit the gas you'll notice the engine spool up some while the car barely accellerates.)

oh, is the power button mod the same thing as what the power button does? I saw about 2 years ago that you could put in a switch wired to one wire somewhere under the dash and when you turn on the switch, the tranny switches into power mode just the same as it would if you floored it fast?

Torque converter lockup refers to what happens in 4th gear at steady speed (above 50something I think). You'll notice the rpm drops and no longer floats when you modulate the throttle. The allows the transmission to run a little cooler (according to the faq) and improve fuel economy.
I don't know if Power Mode has any affect on lockup, but my WAG would be no. CJ |
