you may be using the valet key, try the same key on the glovebox, if it doesnt work there either then it wouldnt be the main key, the main keys are a little darker in color i believe.

Originally, the owner got 3 keys. Two of them had the black cover, one had a gray cover. The gray covered key was the valet key.

Not that I ever make use of the things, but it just irks the %&#*^?! out of me not to have everything that came with the dang car. I know that's a lot to ask of a 10-year-old car with 2 previous owners, but still . . .

I'm also fuming about the ballpoint pen and some little wrench that was supposed to be in the glove compartment.

Fortunately, I've got the penlight and the little wrench that's in the bottom of the console bin.

If you give me your gray key, I would be happy to park your car for you.

You know... I actually do use valet from time to time (I'm very very lazy.), but I always worry about my car getting "violated" since I dont have the valet key. Does anyone have the PN for the grey key?

Mike

I have the original black key for mine as well but it does not open my trunk either. I will have to try it on the glove box...I never thought of that one. Thanks, Leslie!

Dick, I know how you feel. I've spend many dollars trying to get the bits and pieces that didn't come with the car. I've had to buy the tool kit (got the "bits" and the wheel chocks separately). I didn't get a valet key, either (So, sorry, Earl). I paid 10.50 apiece for two blank OE keys (before I knew about the low price from subaruparts.com), but still no valet key. I bought a new remote fob from the dealer at a cost of almost 70 bucks and a used one for 50.00 (again, pre-subaruparts.com). I bought the black "folder" on e-bay for 30 bucks, packed with some pretty neat stuff (original dealer checklilst, and other stuff, but not the penlight). Luckily, the penlight came with my latest acquisition. I still don't have a ballpoint pen. I have both my wrenches (glove box and console). I don't have all the stuff for the latest car, but, I'm about done buying small stuff to make me happy. At least I have one "complete" car, minus the valet key, BUT, I did get the "Manual on Video" with my first car, so that made up for a little bit.

Wheel Chocks...

These come with the toolkit. I got practically nothing when I got mine. Considering the dealer I bought it from, I'm lucky I got the spare and jack. I just bought the toolkit and am steadily trying to put the car back to right. I think I might draw the line at hunting down the doodads though.
