It's deja vu all over again.

There was a thread on this very topic on 10/20/2002. The upshot was - don't machine them beyond the minimum thickness stamped on the rotor.

Don't machine past minimum thickness? Who ever would have figured? lol This question was for those of us who don't seem to have it stamped on the rotors and haven't gotten our recently ordered service manuals...aka me.

Are you sure about that Beav? Seems kind of thick for the fronts and thin for the rears. My fronts are 21mm and rears are 9.8--with the rears looking the more worn. I'd be very very very suprised if my fronts are actually 5mm below minimum.

That's what I have too. New they are only 1.100 and .390 or 27.94mm and 9.90mm. (OEM)

I'm as sure as the specs I'm looking at - they begin life at 1.1"F and .39"R.

Boone, Beav thank you both. As i was predicting....I am very very very suprised. Now i'm questioning the measurements the guy at the shop gave me. The lip on the rears looked more than a mm thick which wouldn't be possible if they started at 9.9mm out of the factory and are 9.8 now. Then again i'm American what do i know about mm's. I thought they melted in your mouth but not in your hands.

The lip on your rears are probably exagerated by some rust. Sounds like you are in need of rotors all the way around.
