whole panel is out

My clock, air conditioner, and cigarette lighter don't work all of a sudden. My radio works and that's the only thing that does work on that panel. Checked the fuses but that doesn't seem to be the cause, anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions for the fix? I did replace the factory stereo but the stuff was still working for a while afterwards... Thanks in advance.

I just had this happen the other day. I checked all the fuses and wiggled all the relays. I don't know if it had any effect, but everything came back on when I started the car.

Let me know if you find a cause.

Had similar symptoms with my Aerostar when a local "expert" shop installed a new radio. It worked great until the power wire, which was pinched, wore through and blew the panel fuse. It sounds like you have not yet found the blown fuse.

The weird thing about mine is that's what I expected it to be but no fuses were blown. I pulled several (under the hood only, not inside the car) and replaced them. The problem only manifested itself once and went away on its own.

That's usually fuse #3. I had this problem before, also. Check your wires to your sunvisor mirrors (remove the little "elbow" covers and see if there are any bare wires).

By replace, I should have said "put them back". The original fuses are still there.

Is fuse #3 in the car or under the hood?

thanks for all your help but is the #3 fuse in the fuse box by driver's left leg? because it doesn't look like those fuses are numbered...

I had the panel do this again yesterday, but it came on within about 10-15 seconds on its own.

Still confused.

Is there a relay that controls power to this panel??

k, i got it, it was the 'Cigar/Mirror' fuse. I just went through all of them. I'm in all your debt.
I've been lurking since i got my SVX in July. Sweet machine, dark green (teal?), spoilerless, 107000mi (at purchase), rebuilt tranny, $4,000. I'm going to CU at Boulder and saw two other SVX's out here.

Yep, that's fuse #3. Sorry I didn't respond before now. Fuse numbers should be located on the cover, however, if you have the problem again, as you look at the panel, starting in the upper left corner, the fuses are numbered:

That's good to know that was the problem. Did you find any shorted or bare wires??

The CD player and the AC controls are on different circuit. AC dying can be caused by a loose wire under the fusebox. Check that first. As for the shot, you can tell. I smelt the burnt fuses the whole week with my new mod.
