Best 9006 HID setup..have "Searched"

Point me towards what seems to be the better/best 9006 HID set up..Morimoto's are panned for really short wiring, Lavalux..can't find a supplier, other brands seem to have frequent ballast failures. Any ideas or names of Forum members that sell setups?

Happy Holidays

Re: Best 9006 HID setup..have "Searched"

I have kit that I bought from Tom (svxfiles) which I believe is a Lavalux system in the SVX, and Morimoto Elites in my Legacy. I definitely had no issue with short wiring in the Legacy. My setup uses the "heavy duty" relay harness that connects directly to the battery. In my case it goes from the battery on the driver's side to the relays mounted on the passenger side frame rail, to both headlights. Enough wiring to go from one side of the car to the other and back again, with the ballasts tucked away nicely and all the wiring routed in discrete locations. Both are working well.

I know who is the original Chinese manufacturer of Lavalux, but out of respect to OT, I prefer not to disclose his identity... OT? PM?

Re: Best 9006 HID setup..have "Searched"

I use retro-solutions DIGITAL HID setups in all of my cars. I use their slim-ballast 35w setup in the SVX. I ran them straight off of the factory wiring, because the headlight wiring looks super beefy in the SVX, so I took a chance. So far, so good. Retro does offer a relay harness (they actually recommended it). My buddy had the standard ballast 55w setup in his 07 OBS, and they ran great off of the stock headlight wiring for over 4 years. He sold the car, but as far as I know, the gentleman who bought the car says they're still working great.

They're a little on the pricey side, but come with a lifetime warranty. They're the only company I'll use.

Danny that would be GREAT!
Since the confiscation of a very large shipment of LavaLux HIDs years ago I have not been able to find a supliar of any brand as reliable as LavaLux.
Take Freeman for example,
we bought three sets of cheap E-Bay HIDs to get ONE set to work!

I've had a set of DDM Tuning HIDs for over a month now. So far no issues.

Re: Best 9006 HID setup..have "Searched"

Lavalux units have been the most reliable. I ave had them in my polo since early 2007 without a bulb or ballast failure or any other electrical issues.

Re: Best 9006 HID setup..have "Searched"

Adding to what John said, the old style ballasts are much better than the slim ones even at the same manufacturer of Lavalux. I got his slims and had a failure of one ballast. DDM's are a POS btw, had them too with one ballast failure.

I have the standard size Lavalux ballasts in the metal cases, mounted inside the front fenders where they remain cool and dry with plenty of air circulation. Heat has a detrimental effect on any electronic component.

Brackets mounted with foam tape and screws to minimize vibration.

For what its worth, many including my self have good results from XeonXpert (spelling) who is a regular vendor on the LegacyGT.com site. I have had a set running for years now and he is great with warranty exchanges and discount prices for forum members.

Can someone point me towards a Lavalux supplier, if they still exist?
