I haven't seen it in their recent ads, but Tire Rack used to recommend going narrower for winter tires, while maintaining the same sidewall height so the rolling diameter remains the same -I think a 205/55 would do the trick.

wider is NOt better in the snow. wide tires are like snowboards. watch a rally race that's in snow and see how skinny the tires are - they "cut" through the white stuff. i'd like to get some skinny crappy rims to put snow tires on.

I'm really happy with my Toyo Proxies on my stock rims. Really sticky, great ride, awesome tread pattern, and $400 installed plus a free alignment for all four wheels. Great deal to me. Oh, and no snow yet, but in a move out of pure stupidity that I will never (hopefully) do again, they didn't hydroplane at 105 MPH in moderate rain. Take it as you will, and compare it to your tires...I would guess that they would do quite well in the snow .

I've been running the Kumho 712's for about 30k miles now.

They've become noisy. And I'm sure it's not the bearings, since the noise goes down dramatically when I put on my Kumho snows.

TOYO PROXES FZ4

I love my Toyos, though I can't compare them with anything except the out of round cheapies that were on the car prior! I will say I can't seem to make the car skid, which may be a function of the AWD, but even so, I like the Toyos (FZ4).

Ah... sorry guys, I didn't buy any of the tires you suggested. I was looking around, and I happened to stop by Sears Auto Center, and low and behold they were having a SALE on my favorite tire thus far: I have a set of these on my NEON right now! They're yokohama A550s. I LOVE THEM. They're quiet, ride quality is good, the tread pattern looks pretty swank, they're stick, and they're all season! Check em out if you can, they were on sale for only 109 each, normally 129!!!!! Anyway, its kinda funny to have 2 black cars with the exact same kind of tires on each one. IT HANDLES GREAT! The old tires were Uniroyal Tigerpaws (ew).

I missed this thread.... if anybody else is looking for really sporty and versatile allseason tires...

Get BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE950s!

I can vouch for their abilities in the dry, in the wet, in snow, in deep water, on dirt, on gravel, etc.

They're quite sticky as well... enough to control an SVX in the corners at well over 70mph and full lateral Gs. I've had them over 130 without a problem as well. Don't be fooled by the H speed rating... they're more like a V, and they're one of the stickiest H rated tires in the world.

400 treadwear, 50,000 mile warranty. Very sporty too. Breakaway is similar to an RE730.
