Since the forum here "sucks a$$" according to your post over on Nasioc why not just spend your time over there?

Have fun with your project.

Re: Project 1:10

The SVreX will rise again (as time and $$ allows) this year. I'll have to go back in old threads to find out how much it weighed when it was in the 2005 Grass Roots Challenge. Plan for this year (again, as time and $$ allows):

1. Get it running again
2. Replace driver's seat with Kirkey race seat (already purchased)
3. Install engine monitoring instrumentation (most of the gauges already purchased)
4. Fit 295/35-17 Hoosier A6 on Mustang Cobra rims to all four corners
5. Install custom "Scorpion" intake and blatantly steal Dave/Ben's ram air through the fog light set up
6. Install port injection nitrous system (parts already purchased)
7. Install modified valve body in 4HEAT (valve body already modified and sitting on a shelf)

-Bill

p.s. the SVrex ran a 13.8 @ 100.8 mph at the 2005 GR Challenge

Re: Project 1:10

1. Heavier than ours with a cage according to Paul at least,
2. The stock gauges are lighter than anything you can buy.
3. Not enough tire.
4. You can have our ram air intake as it isn't legal, it was a GRM special build.
5. Nitrous? Is that for getting a smile while reading our rear bumper?
6. 4heat? 4heat? don't you mean 4 speed?

The SVX by the way will have trouble not bending in 2 without its doors at least over time. I bent the one parts SVX that Dave dragged home so the doors wouldn't workie anymore. Not a safe thing to do.

Re: Project 1:10

Why do people always pick inappropriate starting points for projects? If your goal is to build a car with a 1:10 power/weight, start with a light car... not a heavy luxury GT. I'm sure it's eleventy times easier to bump the power up in an '88 civic with a simple motor swap than it is to try to cut 2000 lbs out of an SVX.

Hell, for the cost of building a super-light SVX (that's not the total pile/death trap that an SVX w/o doors/windows/fender/etc would be), you could just buy an NSX and supercharge it. Or turbo a 1st gen Miata. Or a build a Vette motor'd 240Z. Or a E30 3-series w/ an E46 M3 motor... etc.

In fact, if light is what you want, just spend $2000 on a used F125 kart and go racing.

And, most importantly, if this lightweight goal is just for drag racing... buy a g-damn Camaro, drop $4000 on it, and run in the 10's. *Nothing* is going to be faster for cheaper than a large displacement motor in a RWD car. Just because you have access to a cheap SVX and like drag racing, doesn't mean the two go together ideally.

Where's that picture of the EG33 with a seat on top? I think that about sums up this thread.

This is just a theory, but I think the more weight you remove, the more acceleration/handling will improve.

If you have something really sharp that either spins or oscillates really fast and is reliable for cutting hard/dense metals (can't think of what can do this ATM), you can remove as much weight as you want.

Re: Project 1:10

Why not chop the entire roof right off?

honestly, why use the body at all? It sounds like you basicly want to make a go-kart.

Make a frame and throw in an engine. make your own personal Atom.

We all know its never gonna happen. lol Your not articulate enough in your writing to bother giving any weight to your conversation. You babble so that people will listen to you.

Im done here. Everyone else should be to. But we wont be, because for some reason, we all like to scream at stupid people.

And you sir, are one.

Re: Project 1:10

It is far easier to do mild weight reduction and then add power to an svx... Say that conservatively with the hydra, meth, and a tune I make 350-360whp.. I know my car was @ 3550lbs last spring when I got it weighed... Since then I have swapped the WRX driver seat for a sparco (-15lbs~), swapped my roof so I no longer have a sunroof (-25lbs~), finished stripping the trunk and removed the rear wiper assembly (-10lbs~). That would put me at 3500lbs and 360whp... 9.722:1 My car is also still safe and street driveable.....

Ben,
Agreed on the tire size...I'd love to find some inexpensive (yeah, right..) 10" wide CCW in 17" that I could put some 315s on (have 2 used 315s sitting in the barn).
Nah, actually going to stay with the auto for consistency in the 1/4. I'm hoping the modified valve body is going to help things.

17" are a waste of money for racing. You're paying for custom made stuff. 16s are cheap, lighter more durable unless you wanna look cool ridin' through the hood.

1/4 mile? Thank god you wear that body condom. We don't need anymore mullet heads around
