movement in rear wheel assembly

If you jack up up the car, take off the tire, you can move in and out the whole hub assembly on the drivers side about 1", and the halfshaft moves with it. However there is no road noise at all, but it doesnt move in and out like that on the other side..
Any ideas what this could be? Should I be overly concerned about it?

I know there's the "passive all wheel steering" deal that always comes up, but 1" of play seems a bit much to me. What sort of shape are your suspension bushings in? Does the other side do that too?

so are you saying the axles moves but the hub doesn't?? Thats a major issue and I would not drive the car in any case until it is resolved

Is this on the teal???? If so, I'll find out what it is when I come pick it up hopefully tomorrow. 1" is ALOT and I'm quite curious to see what it could be to cause that kind of play as I didn't notice anything wrong a few months ago when I was working on it. Get ahold of me about us coming down Sunday(today).

Not the teal. Surprisingly!
I think it makes me more sad that it is not the teal though.
There is no noise coming from the rear of the car. It seems perfectly fine driving down the road, but when I was taking off the tire I noticed it had play, and when I was pulling the rotor off I REALLY noticed the play. I tried moving the other side and it did not have nearly that much movement.
Not sure what would cause this?

Problem solved. Whoever the last person was to tighten the axle nut apparently thought it was tight enough when it still had 3 turns to go to even be snug. Tightened it down and it's good to go.

Jason,

We have found that EVEN WHEN PROPERLY TIGHTENED AND TORQUED, the axle nuts do have a tendency to loosen up (not 3 turns, though ). It' one of the things we check any time there's an unusual vibration.
